This week, I had the privilege of attending CORE Days in Belgrade, Serbia, centered on advancing the region's ESG agenda under the theme “Towards a Net Zero Future!” The event shed light on both the challenges and opportunities for sustainable development in the Western Balkans. I was inspired by the momentum around building a climate-resilient food system and had the chance to connect with passionate professionals and agriculture enthusiasts in the Western Balkans. Keynote speakers, including Serbia's Minister of Science, Jelena Begović, underscored the country's commitment to climate-neutral technologies. The UK Ambassador to Serbia praised NALED for bringing together such a diverse group, urging practical and ambitious solutions. I was honored to represent the Regenerative Agriculture Portfolio on a panel discussing food security. Alongside esteemed colleagues, we explored transformative approaches to regenerative agriculture. Ivanka Stojnic from Nestlé shared insights on their work with 40 farmers across 6,000 hectares of regenerative farming. Additionally, Ivana Popović, State Secretary in Serbia’s Ministry of Agriculture, announced a new working group to advance regenerative practices across the country. On Day 2, my EIT Food colleagues highlighted efforts to finance the transition to a sustainable, net-zero economy. It was great to see Vivien Bodereau and Adam Strzelecki showcasing our commitment to sustainability. After just 48 hours, I left Belgrade with invaluable insights and new perspectives. A big thank you to NALED for the invitation and Todo Terzić for the introductions. I was also delighted to meet Koen van Ginneken in-person and discuss our Dutch connections in the region. I look forward to returning soon!
