The mission succeeded, giving Finsulate the opportunity to accelerate towards full size applications on all types of cargo vessels.

January 28th is International Reducing CO2 Emissions Day! Carbon dioxide is a huge contributor to climate change with global consequences. As one of the world's leading multi-modal companies actively involved in a variety of social infrastructure businesses in addition to its traditional shipping businesses, the Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) Group is committed to protecting and enhancing the health of our marine/global environment for future generations, and the prevention of air pollution is one such important factor we are dedicated to. Compared to other modes of transport, ocean shipping can transport larger volumes of cargo at once and is a generally environment-friendly mode, with lower emissions per unit load of CO2 and other air pollutants. However, with growth of the world economy spurred by the development of emerging markets, overall world ocean cargo traffic continues to increase. Seaborne trade has exceeded 10 billion tons, and we anticipate further increases in the future. As seaborne trade increases, CO2 emissions will rise in step with growing energy consumption. This can exacerbate pressing environmental issues such as increase of typhoon which may cause the port delay or suspension of ferry service. CO2 emissions from merchant vessels account for about 2% of global emissions, and the shipping industry must do more to protect the environment. MOL strives to control emissions of pollutants through initiatives such as the adoption of advanced technologies and slow steaming. We will proactively promote the adoption of technologies to reduce our environmental impact through the "ISHIN NEXT - MOL SMART SHIP PROJECT -" launched FY2016. We are also committed to entering environmental business areas such as renewable energy and develop them as a core business in the future. The MOL Group will continue to make a concerted effort to reduce various impacts on the global environment, such as climate change measures, but also protect natural capital and biodiversity, while earning the trust of a broad range of stakeholders.
