Understanding algorithmic amplification is necessary to explore the processes and tools that empower users so that they can proactively shape and assess the content they engage with. Labels can be a helpful tool in the broader algorithmic transparency toolkit, argue Marlena Wisniak and Luca Belli: https://lnkd.in/eYSRYMen

🔴 #Belarus hands down the first criminal sentence for continuing CSO activities after forced liquidation! The judgment follows the liquidation of the Hrodna Children's Hospice, a public association providing palliative care, after its director's criticism of the regime. She was sentenced to nine years in prison and a fine of around 3,400 EUR. Since 2021, over 1700 CSOs have been forcibly liquidated, or self-liquidated due to extremely unfavourable political and legal conditions for civil society in the country. This verdict sets a dangerous precedent for their criminal prosecution. ➡️#CSOMeter update:

A new ECNL report - 'Towards an AI Act that serves people and society' - commissioned by the European AI & Society Fund identifies strategic priorities for civil society and funders on the implementation and enforcement of the EU #AIAct. The coming two years will be critical for the AI Act and #CSOs must be active partners in this process to ensure that the regulation can be an effective tool to challenge the harmful impacts of AI on society and secure #accountability over AI use. The report presents detailed recommendations for the most important capacities CSOs will need for the implementation and enforcement of the AI Act with respect to: 🔵 coordination; ⚪ research; 🔵 advocacy on the EU and national levels; ⚪ strategic litigation; 🔵 campaigning and movement building.
