For our 60th anniversary interview series, we're speaking with Arjan Kuipers. The Field Support Specialist has been around the world in his 30 years at CSi. He talks with us about growing, colleagues and valuable lessons. This was in the days before mobile phones, and you had little contact when you were with the customer. I got my Dutch colleague Theo Vogelaar on the phone, who had specially called to ask if everything was going well. Something like that never happened and I still remember it to this day." 𝗔 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲: 𝟭𝟵𝟳𝟰 - 𝟭𝟵𝟴𝟰 In 1974, we relocated to Raamsdonksveer, where we still are to this day. This move increased our visibility and led to a partnership with PLM AB, a Swedish conglomerate specialising in glass, aluminium, and carton packaging. PLM already had some conveyors in their range, and by combining our conveyor expertise with their glass knowledge, we strengthened our market position. The acquisition led to our specialisation in the transport of bottles and other primary small packaging. For a customer, we were tasked with optimising their entire internal transport system. At the customer’s request, we ventured into rail transport, something we had never done before, but we immediately agreed to. This shows the optimistic attitude that we still have to this day. 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗿 A pivotal project for our future came in 1978 with DuPont, a worldwide front runner in the field of chemicals. We provided an Intelligent Inventory System that precisely tracked the location of rolls within an intermediate warehouse, using infrared-based communication technology for order picking. At DuPont’s new facility, where they produced Tyvek (a tear-resistant paper-fabric hybrid), we were contracted to supply the conveyor system. The project quickly expanded to include the automation of the end-of-line packaging process. We developed a machine that placed the rolls of Tyvek on pallets according to customer orders. This was our first ever palletiser! 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲 The major projects of this decade included Blue Band in 1974, de Bijenkorf Distribution Centre in 1975, Tetra Pak in 1976, DuPont in 1978, Procter & Gamble in 1979, and Fujifilm Europe in 1983. Thus, we began our true project-based approach to complex assignments using the turnkey formula. Before we had worked with other companies, relying on their expertise and outsourcing tasks. Going forward from 1984, we took on the execution of all project tasks, becoming both the main point of contact and the overall responsible party. This required a shift in our mindset and operations, as project management became an integral part of our work. A change with significant impact for the coming years. 𝗖𝗦𝗶 𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻-𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗥𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀. As an original equipment manufacturer (OEM), we proudly manufacture our own systems at our two factories in the Romanian Cluj-Napoca and Reghin. Our robot and layer palletisers as well as our case and pallet conveyors are manufactured in-house. In 2005 we moved our manufacturing process from the Netherlands to Romania and to this day we’re very content with the consistency in cost, quality and reliability. The Cluj-Napoca region has a large population of technical people, housing five universities with a technical focus. To secure consistent quality for years to come we moved to the area almost two decades ago. We were already familiar with the region, as we had previously done charity work there with our foundation Peter Pan. Cluj-Napoca is where most of the manufacturing and assembly takes place. The factory acceptance tests (FAT) are also held there. As the production demand outgrew the capacity of the Cluj-Napoca facility, we opened a second facility in Reghin, a two-hour drive from Cluj-Napoca. The Reghin factory focuses mainly on the “heavy lifting” of the production process, handling the metal working and prepping the materials for further processing. Nowadays CSi Romania employs around 300 people and is a highly valued part of the CSi family. #Manufacturing #OEM #CSiRomania

𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗢𝗿𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 - CSi’s MOre SCADA and Systems Intelligence i4.0 Software Suite has been developed to provide you as a customer with complete machine control and insights. This time we will explain a bit more about how the system is put together and how the different functional building blocks are connected. Previously we talked about the functional building blocks for SCADA and last time about the blocks for insight into your production facility. But how are these all connected and able to provide and use each other data? The MOre Baseplate is, as the name suggests, the base for all functional building blocks. It’s always the starting point when we’re constructing a new software package for a customer, to it we add our functional building blocks. This way we can compose tailored software to exactly match the customer's wishes. A commonly added functional building block is MOre Connect, which enables connection to 3rd party systems such as ERP, WMS and MES systems. In other words, it allows for the integration of the MOre software, which controls the palletisers, with the software running the whole facility. This way controllers and management can seamlessly manage their assets. For reporting, you need reliable data, and that is what MOre Data Collect is meant for. This functional building block doesn't have a user interface but represents the functionality to gather data from the physical system. It can be used as a data source for MOre Reporting building blocks, such as Quality Control, Shift Report or Equipment Statistics. At this point in time, there are over 25 functional building blocks, with several more being built and additional ideas for future developments. 𝗦𝗶𝘅 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲, 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝗳𝘁𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲 - Since we started in 1964 in Rotterdam with the brake roller system, we’ve come a long way. In the last six decades, the market has shifted and changed, welcoming more palletising companies to the branche. With the rapidly expanding technological advances, CSi has early on made the decision to pivot from being “only” a palletiser supplier.   Our service department is an essential part of the company, delivering diverse services to our customers throughout the life cycle of the equipment. Hence, the department is called Lifecycle Services. The department encompasses services such as spare parts, maintenance, modifications, training, consultancy, remote service, vertical start up and 24/7 support. And we are very proud of our most recent addition of the Performance Level Agreements (PLAs), which we launched just this spring.   Of course, we haven’t stopped developing our product, and we’ll keep improving and innovating. Our current portfolio consists of the i-Pal and LINEˣ robot palletisers, the Taros and C5000 layer palletisers and various case and pallet transport modules. But going with the time also means taking the leap with new machines such as cobots or saying goodbye to models that don’t stand the test of time, like the C2000, i.Veyor and Intelliware software.   Talking technology is also talking software. To run and compliment our specialised systems we wanted to use specialised software, so we built it ourselves. The MOre SCADA & Systems Intelligence i4.0 Software Suite is carefully programmed and designed for optimal usefulness and user experience. It fully integrates with our palletising systems to provide a tailormade solution, and by choosing specific functional building blocks the MOre software offers exactly what the customer wants.   So, since starting in 1964 we’ve developed, invented, departed with and welcomed a lot of products, services and software to CSi. But today's portfolio is just a halfway station, and we’re steaming ahead to the factory of the future.   #CSi60years #Development #Improvement
