🪸 Small teaser! 🪸 We’re excited to share that Coastruction is part of a collaborative project endorsed by the UN Ocean Decade under Ocean Visions' Global Ecosystem for Ocean Solutions Program (GEOS)!👏 Together with the University of Miami College of Engineering and Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra, we’re working on Coast3D Reefs—an initiative to co-design, test, and pilot sustainable 3D-printed breakwater and living shoreline structures. Our PBRs will help protect coastal communities while promoting new habitats for #corals and #mangroves. We are excited to announce that our Purpose-Built Reef (PBR), consisting of 150 separate structures, has completed testing in the Delta Flume at Deltares! 🪸This large-scale experiment, part of the ARISE project, aims to determine the effectiveness of PBRs in breaking high #waves and mitigating coastal #flooding, especially for low-lying islands like the #Maldives. 🏝 🌊 In the Delta Flume, high waves can be simulated to gather crucial data on sedimentation, erosion and wave attenuation. We’re thrilled to be part of the Joint Industry Project SPREE (Scour Protection for Ecological Enhancement) alongside an incredible team of partners. 👩🎓 Five months ago, Lise Pieper started her internship with us, and it's time to say goodbye (for now). Thanks to Lise’s hard work on our #database, it will be ready to launch by the end of this year! Interns learn many things during an internship, but we’d like to highlight some of the things we’ve learned from Lise during her time with us: 1. Stay Positive: Lise's smile never fades, even during the scary ride on the Baron at the Efteling during Coastruction's annual family day. She kept on smiling! 😯 2. Tea is the key: Lise showed us that you can easily power through a full day without a single cup of coffee (we know, very scary stuff). 🍵 3. Connect with people: At the Upstream Festival and OCEANOVATION, Lise connected us with numerous interesting parties through her fearless networking skills. Thank you, Lise, for these amazing months! 🌊 The Hague, 19 and 20 June, 2024 🪸 We had an incredible time at the OCEANOVATION Festival, engaging with like-minded innovators and ocean advocates. Nadia Fani, Josine Beets, Lise Pieper, and Marrien Kalapula had the pleasure of meeting so many inspiring individuals and organizations dedicated to preserving our #oceans. One highlight was reconnecting with our close partner AETHIC, the producer of the world’s only proven and patented reef-safe #sunscreen. Their efforts are making significant steps in combining ocean conservation with sustainable travel. 🏖️ Thank you, Allard Marx! We also had insightful conversations with OceanLoveNews, who hosted the first OceanLove Awards at the festival, celebrating innovative #solutions in ocean conservation and sustainability. 🌟🏆 Thank you, Hana Ajam and Jokūbas Bliujus for the inspiring conversation!
