🌱🏙️🤝 To create cities that truly thrive, we need spaces that resonate with the people who live in them. This means building environments that are not only sustainable but also vibrant, inclusive, and full of potential. At the core of this vision is a powerful idea: cities should be shaped by the people, for the people. When community engagement takes centre stage in urban projects, it demonstrates that including residents in the design of their future leads to cities that are not just liveable but extraordinary. 🎙️The latest How Could We? podcast episode is out now! 🌿In this episode, our guests are Marianne Lemberger, Programme Manager from EIT Food & Christophe Gadenne from Gardens4Good. 💬This episode discusses Gardens4Good's rooftop food garden project at the Annie Girardot nursing home in Paris, a project supported by EIT - European Institute of Innovation and Technology Community NEB, which Marianne is in charge of at EIT Food. We talk about how this project positively impacts its residents, why it is important to include diverse stakeholders in community engagement and how to design or redesign projects to ensure the inclusivity and empowerment of marginalized voices. 🗣️Marianne says, “The most effective engagements are the ones where the communities are treated as partners, rather than passive stakeholders. And when you involve marginalized populations, you get the chance to find solutions that can only actually come from diverse experiences. And so it's really adding value to this transformation and fostering a sense of community and belonging, two key elements for building a sustainable and healthy environment for all." 🗣️Christophe says, "The idea is just to arrive somewhere and give people something - we give them a food garden but don't tell them what to do with it, they are completely free to come up with ideas on how to use it. I hope Gardens4Good can inspire lots of people to start food gardens and communicate about them." 🎵 Listen now on Amazon Music: https://bit.ly/4dVKKOw 🍎 Listen now on Apple Podcasts: https://bit.ly/4dWc6Ea 🟢 Listen now on Spotify: https://bit.ly/3Zkem3I This episode was hosted by Anne-Sophie Clulow-Garrigou and produced by Bárbara Mendes-Jorge. 🏙️ Consider a city aiming to retrofit hundreds of aging buildings for better energy efficiency. The initial costs are high, and, while the long-term financial returns are significant, they take years to materialise. The complexity deepens when specific requirements and unpredictable regulations add layers of uncertainty — which can often deter investors seeking safer and quicker gains. 💶 So, for the European cities working on achieving carbon neutrality, the big question is - how to secure needed funding? Across Europe, cities are finding creative ways to overcome the financial hurdles of becoming carbon neutral. Find out more in our latest article. 🎙️ A special episode launching the latest How Could We? podcast series is out now! 🌿 This series explores cities' transformation and why cities play such a key role in tackling climate change, and our first guest is our CEO, Kirsten Dunlop, who joins us to discuss why EIT Climate-KIC has chosen to work in - and with - cities. 💬 In this episode, we discuss how cities embody the idea of systems transformation, how to scale up successful city strategies and what EIT Climate-KIC has learned from our work with cities that informs collaborations with regions, nations, industries and many other stakeholders. 🗣️ Kirsten says, “Our job is to bring about the kind of transformations we need to enable people to live well, but within planetary boundaries - and that means living sustainably when it comes to the way we use building materials, the way we travel, about the way we dress, the food we access. Cities are absolutely at the centre of that transformation."" 🍎 Listen now on Apple Podcasts: https://bit.ly/4dNAoAf 🟢 Listen now on Spotify: https://bit.ly/479mCW7 🎶 Listen now on Amazon Music: https://amzn.to/3AXzl1Q This episode was hosted by Anne-Sophie Clulow-Garrigou and produced by Bárbara Mendes-Jorge.
