Thrilled that we will host our PhD course “Transformative Research for Sustainability Challenges” for the 4th time at Utrecht University May 12-23, 2025. Wonderful to run this course again in collaboration with a fantastic teaching team across UU, WUR, UT & SRC, including Esther Turnhout 🟥, Maria Tengö, Jeanne Nel, Birgit Boogaard, Jessica Duncan, Esha Shah, Jonas Torrens, and Jillian Student. Many thanks also to the support of Utrecht Summer School, Wageningen Institute for Environment and Climate Research (WIMEK), EWUU alliance (TU/e, WUR, UU, UMC Utrecht), & Urban Futures Studio. Son parte de la regeneración de Portugal. @Pedro nogueira de Terra Sintrópica, y Marta Cortegano de ESDIME forman parte de #laredterritoriosregenerativos Su trabajo en la región del Baixo Alentejo en el Sur de Portugal, es un ejemplo único de cómo se puede transformar el territorio. Haciéndolo mejor tanto para el entorno natural, como para las personas que habitan en él. Pedro y Marta son un referente de como conseguir que un territorio sea ecológicamente más seguro y socialmente más justo. Apostando por un modelo de gobernanza colaborativo, en Terra Sintrópica, y llevando a cabo la transferencia de todo ese conocimiento a través de ESDIME. Pedro and Marta are a reference of how to make a territory ecologically safer and socially fairer. Betting on a collaborative governance model, in Terra Sintrópica, and carrying out the transfer of all that knowledge through ESDIME. 🇬🇧 Talking about syntropy is talking about belonging and co-evolution. Personal, community, ecosystemic. In this IMMERSION, the foundations of syntropy and regeneration through use will be the matrix of the program, but there will be room to experience the territory in its breadth and transformative power. Participating in IMERSION is being able to belong to a restless human ecosystem - «cá dentro, inquietação, inquietação» - listening and echoing, based on the concrete experience of what is experienced in Mértola. It will be a long IMMERSIVE conversation, participating in the experimentation and translation of syntropy to the semi-arid Mediterranean context, in one of the regions most affected by depopulation and desertification. A dialogical encounter between local production, the regeneration of a landscape, the consumption of what is nearby. An experience of the senses, from the garden to the plate, from the town of Mértola to the Vale do Guadiana Natural Park. Come be part of this human ecosystem and this experience-territory. Now, let’s talk about what you can immediately do to make a positive impact on your next holiday! 🏝 How to Make Your Holidays More Biodiversity-Friendly: 1.     Choose Sustainable Options: Opt for eco-friendly accommodations certified by labels like the EU Ecolabel, which ensure that your stay meets high environmental standards. Supporting such businesses helps minimize the impact of tourism on natural ecosystems 2.     Respect Nature: When choosing activities, prioritize those that protect habitats and species. Stick to designated paths, don’t feed or disturb wildlife, and avoid damaging plants. Always carry out your waste and leave no trace behind. 3.     Avoid Harmful Souvenirs: Do not buy products made from protected species, such as coral, ivory, or reptile leather, even if they're marketed as "local delicacies" or souvenirs. Purchasing such items contributes to the illegal wildlife trade and the decline of endangered species. 4.     Support Conservation: Instead of visiting places that exploit animals (like dolphinariums or elephant rides), support local conservation projects and protected areas. Your support can help preserve natural habitats and protect endangered species. 5.     Volunteer for a Cause: Spend your holiday time volunteering in environmental projects, such as those offered by Bergwaldprojekt or WWOOF in Germany. Volunteering not only gives you a fulfilling experience and increases your awareness for nature but also contributes directly to conservation efforts. 6.     Try Home Swaps or Staycations: Consider home exchange platforms like Couchsurfing or ADFC’s "Dachgeber" for eco-friendly travel.
