Industry challenge  Effective indoor navigation is a challenge for mobile robotics and autonomous vehicles. GPS does not work indoors, alternative systems don’t support accurate positioning or rely on expensive and inflexible infrastructure such as rails, beacons or magnet grids. Accurate positioning without infrastructure Accerion has developed a breakthrough, patent-pending positioning technology which can be integrated into automated vehicles and mobile robots. Our module uniquely enables automated vehicles to navigate in dynamic environments, both indoors and outdoors, without requiring infrastructure outside the vehicle or robot.  We provide a positioning module as a single system for integration in new and existing equipment. This module enables manufacturers of robots and automatic vehicles to create new flexible and cost-effective logistics solutions. These solutions will drive automation and efficiency in warehousing, manufacturing and many other industries. Toen we onze AGV (Automatisch Geleide Voertuig) ontwikkelden, wilden we dezelfde efficiënte lijnvolging bieden als bij traditionele AGV’s, maar zonder de tijdrovende en dure verbouwingskosten van een inductielijn. We kozen bewust ook niet voor een AMR (Autonome Mobiele Robot) met uitgebreide, ingewikkelde en vaak dure software. De oplossing? Rijden op basis van vloerstructuur, waarvoor we zelf de software hebben ontwikkeld die een virtuele lijn creëert. Dit zorgt niet alleen voor aanzienlijke kostenbesparingen, maar maakt de implementatie ook nog eens flexibel en razendsnel. 🚀 Routes kunnen later makkelijk aangepast of uitgebreid worden. Het is dus meestal niet nodig om voor een AMR te kiezen.     🚀 At Accerion, we embarked on a mission to overcome a significant hurdle in automation: unlocking reliability, flexibility and speed for mobile robots. Traditional technologies like Lidar-SLAM often struggle in dynamic settings, while others require extensive infrastructure or lack the necessary accuracy. Our breakthrough? We turned to the floor. Initially, many doubted our approach, but the Jupiter prototype silenced skeptics. The Jupiter V1 became the first commercial solution enabling larger mobile robots to navigate reliably without any infrastructure. It was an engineering triumph, equipped with two camera’s, mirrors and telecentric lenses that delivered outstanding absolute localization and visual odometry. Despite the positive reception, one challenge persisted: “Will it fit in my mobile robot?” We listened. In record time, we developed a single-camera prototype with comparable functionality. Fast-forward to 2020, and we launched Triton V1: delivering the same exceptional localization performance in a significantly smaller form factor. The Triton V1.1 brought further improvements, with enhanced thermal design and software updates that boosted visual odometry to rival its dual-camera predecessor. Its design was also optimized for mass production, leading us to declare the Jupiter end-of-life. Just a year after its debut, we celebrated the shipment of our 1000th Triton V1.1, a milestone marked by a gold anodized model from one of our suppliers. Now, in 2024, we’re proud to announce that over 3,000 robots are powered by Triton.     🔧 Fix Unreliable Lidar Localization with Triton Lidar localization is great for achieving decent results with minimal setup effort. But as environments change—something that's inevitable in intralogistics—performance can quickly degrade. That’s where Triton shines. By integrating Triton’s floor-based localization with Lidar, you achieve consistent, reliable performance regardless of environmental changes. 🌟 So how does mapping the floor work? Just drive your robot where you need a map: 🗺️ Long Hallways: Use quick zig-zag mapping for frequent Triton poses (see video below) 🌍 Large Open Areas: Create a map with a coarse grid to localize in large areas. 🎯 Docking Stations: Map a line for constant pose updates.
