🌟 Employee Spotlight: Meet Jill, Senior Animator at Abstraction! This month, we're excited to introduce Jill Slor, one of our newest team members who's jumped into her role as Senior Animator with tons of enthusiasm and fresh insights. Here’s what she shared about her experience so far: What attracted you to Abstraction, and how has your experience been so far? "Abstraction’s work with studios across the gaming world immediately drew me in. The chance to grow, gain new exposure, and work with some of the kindest people was too good to pass up. Watching the latest developer vlogs on Gigantic (a game I really admire for its art direction) completely sealed the deal for me! Since joining, I've felt welcomed with open arms and have had the opportunity to dive into exciting projects with some truly awesome colleagues. I'm already expanding my animation skills and feeling empowered by the support and growth mindset here." How was the onboarding process for you? What stood out the most? "From the start, I felt genuinely appreciated. The team was super welcoming, and they made the transition into my role so smooth. It may sound simple, but just having those casual chats about my hobbies or hearing how excited they were to work with me helped me settle in fast. They really made it easy!" What excites you most about your role as Senior Animator at Abstraction? "I'm really pumped to see how far I can push my own boundaries in this role. Even though I've just started, I’m already looking forward to seeing how much progress I'll have made a year from now!" Pro Tip💡: As someone who’s recently joined, what advice would you give to someone who’d like to work at Abstraction? "My biggest tip? Be yourself and stay positive. It’s just as important as your portfolio. Beyond that, take the time to understand Abstraction’s core values. For me, those values really hit home, and I see them in every Abstractioner I’ve met so far." Welcome, Jill Slor! We can’t wait to see all the amazing things you'll create here at Abstraction.

Congratulations on the 3 years Alexandre Riviere!🎉 Not only are you a pleasure to work with, but you have been brilliant at consistently finding incredibly talented people to join the abstraction team!
Today marks my 3rd year at abstraction. 4 years ago, despite cool career opportunities on the European continent, I decided to go back to Reunion Island, where I grew up. I needed to slow things down for a while. Going back to a French territory known for its high unemployment rate and low salaries was highly risky, especially after all the sacrifices made to have cool diplomas and company names on my CV. I was lucky enough to be noticed by Wouter Go. He told me about the Dutch video game industry, got me into his recruitment agency, and introduced me to the Abstraction team. The connection came naturally and I was hired internally. Zero cultural shock: I had already done a student exchange in Amsterdam back then. I love Dutch culture (and Dutch deep-fried snacks). Thanks a lot for everything, Abstraction. Hype doesn't mean anything. Company culture is everything. Happy work anniversary to me🎉!

🌟 Employee Spotlight: Meet Wilco Schroo, our Lead Programmer! This month, we’re excited to feature Wilco, who’s been with Abstraction for an impressive 13 years as a Lead Programmer. 🎮 Let’s dive into his journey and learn more about his experiences in game development. -What originally drew you to game development, and how did you get started in the industry? "I started playing around with computers at a young age, which sparked my interest in programming. After completing generic computer engineering studies, I joined IGAD at NHTV (now BUAS) in 2006, and that’s how I really got started in game development." -What’s been the most rewarding project you’ve worked on during your time here? "Definitely Rogue Legacy. It was an exciting challenge, and seeing the game come to life was incredibly rewarding!" Pro tip: If you could give one piece of advice to someone starting their career in game programming, what would it be? "Don’t be afraid to make mistakes, and always ask questions. It’s the best way to learn and grow." A big shoutout to our recruiter Alexandre Riviere who delivered a guest lecture just yesterday at ECAS school on the topic of "Video game studio culture." 🙌 Alex touched on some insightful subjects, from the evolution of the gaming industry and its diverse markets (PC, console, mobile, VR, and more) to how games are funded, the variety of roles in a game studio, and some practical recruitment tips for those looking to make the leap from animation into gaming. 🎮 Despite limited preparation time, Alex did his best to deliver an insightful and valuable session for the students' career transitions! A big thank you to Alexandre Riviere, ECAS, and all the students for their active participation and enthusiasm! #CareerTransition #GamingIndustry #AnimationToGaming #AbstractionGames #VideoGames #Growth

In the latest episode of the Talent XChange Podcast, our very own Christopher Redmond teams up with Daisy Ilaria to tackle one of the most pivotal—and often challenging—interview questions: "Tell me about yourself." Looking to leave a lasting impression in your next interview? Don’t miss the full episode packed with valuable insights! Click the link in the comments below to tune in 👇 #InterviewTips #GamingIndustry #AbstractionGames #CareerSuccess
The ‘Tell me about yourself’ question can make or break your interview...... I recently spoke to Daisy Ilaria about the intricacies of this question and how you can use it to your advantage in an interview. see the TalentXChange Podcast 👇 I have been in countless interviews where the candidate let the opportunity of putting their best foot forward slip by. Here is what you can do to make sure you are nailing this question: 📍 Keep your answer 3-5 minutes—this is just an intro. 📍Structure it: past, present, future. 📍Be specific—use numbers to showcase your achievements. 📍Link personal interests to the role (e.g., gaming passion driving success in game development). 📍Briefly mention education; focus on relevant experience. 📍Highlight key projects or awards to prompt follow-up questions. 📍Be ready to dive deeper into examples. 📍Confidence comes from practice and preparation! The most important thing you should do is leave nuggets or hooks in your response, using numbers or data that is relevant to the role and will be intriguing to the recruiter so they can follow up with " Can you tell me more about that....." For the full episode where I go into depth about this with Daisy is in the comments 👇

Employee Spotlight: Meet Alexandre Riviere, our Senior Recruiter, working remotely from Reunion Island! 🌞 This time, we’re excited to introduce Alexandre, who brings his unique perspective from the sunny beaches of Reunion Island 🌴 . Working remotely doesn’t stop him from staying fully connected with our team and the gaming community. Here’s a glimpse into his work life and career journey: 🔹 What’s it like working remotely from your location? "Working remotely from Reunion Island enables me to have a very low level of stress as soon as I finish work. It’s always sunny (sometimes very humid too), birds are singing, and people are relaxed. I go to the beach every week. It feels normal to me: I was born and raised here. I simply got back home when I got a chance, and found my job at Abstraction." 🔹 Have you encountered any unique challenges or perks in recruitment? "Since I recruit across Europe and the UK, the remote aspect hasn’t made much difference. Interviews are still conducted via videoconference. One funny moment is when candidates in cold climates see me sweating in a T-shirt while they’re bundled up! 😀 " 🔹 How do you stay connected with the team and the gaming community? "I spend a lot of time on LinkedIn, I talk to my team every day on Slack and via Teams, I join all the online company events, and I come to the Netherlands at least once a year. I also regularly reach out to my gaming network on social networks. I recently had many casual chats with several fellow gaming recruiters from the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, etc. and it felt great. I hope I can meet some of them IRL one day." 🔹 What’s your favorite part about your current lifestyle? "I love being surrounded by cats and having more time with my family compared to when I lived in Paris. The balance between work and enjoying my surroundings is fantastic." 🔹 What inspired you to pursue a career in recruitment in the gaming industry? "As a long-time gamer, I became curious about the industry through friends. After getting a recruitment role in a game art school in Paris, I’ve never left the industry. It’s been a rewarding journey interviewing everyone from aspiring devs to veterans." 🔹Pro tip: Advice for aspiring recruiters in the gaming industry from Alex: "Be patient, apply, and be honest with the people you meet. You’ll need strong English skills, knowledge of labor law, and an understanding of video game production. Lastly, always stay on top of gaming industry news!" Thank you, Alex, for sharing your story and experiences! 🎮 We’re happy to have you as part of the Abstraction team. #AbstractionGames #EmployeeSpotlight #RemoteWork #GamingRecruitment #GameDev
