Reflecting on our journey of transforming the livestock sector through NDDP in 2017, a project that truly showcases our dedication to Agriculture and Nutrition. Partnering with FMAFS, the Oyo State Government, and the Kano State Government, we’ve been able to drive meaningful change that resonates with our core values. This project has not only improved productivity among smallholder cattle farmers but also enriched the lives of families in Oyo and Kano communities while ensuring better nutrition and sustainable growth. The NDDP project stands as a powerful testament to the impact we aim to create with every initiative we undertake. Our work in the livestock sector inspires us to innovate and deliver results that matter. Last week, I had the privilege of attending a two-day workshop facilitated by Sahel Consulting where the critical role of agriculture in Nigeria's development took center stage. Agriculture is a key sector in our economy and a vital source of livelihood for a large portion of our labor force. The workshop provided a deep dive into the numerous challenges facing our agricultural system, with a particular focus on the impact of climate change—especially on smallholder farmers who heavily depend on stable weather conditions for their livelihoods. Themed "Climate Information Dissemination and Uses in Nigeria," the stakeholder workshop introduced a Climate Information Service (CIS) designed to enhance early warning systems. This initiative aims to ensure that farmers receive timely and accurate climate information crucial for making informed decisions to protect their crops and sustain food production. The discussions also emphasized the importance of adapting CIS to meet the local needs of various farming communities across Nigeria, underscoring the need for better coordination and collaboration among stakeholders. As an active participant in Nigeria's development and someone deeply interested in strategic partnerships, I left the workshop equipped with valuable insights and connections to drive the effective delivery and use of climate information services. I welcome further conversations on this important topic—let's continue to explore how we can collectively make a difference. #Agriculture #StrategicPartnerships Aisha Hadejia #ClimateInformationService

Last week, Sahel Consulting in collaboration with PLAN International, and the Federal Project Coordinating Unit held a Training of Trainers (ToT) for the Nigeria for Women Project (NFWP). The training was held from Monday, August 19th to Friday, August 23rd, 2024 at Ibis Hotel in Ikeja. The training was designed to equip Trainers from the Federal and State Project Coordinating Units with the necessary skills in Financial Inclusion, Processing, and Value Addition. These are essential components for the project’s success in empowering women economically. It was also designed to imbue participants with the knowledge to effectively cascade the training to various livelihood collectives across the six implementing states. The training brought together key stakeholders involved in the Nigeria for Women Project, including: - Federal Project Coordinating Unit (FPCU) - State Project Coordinating Units (SPCUs) from the six implementing states - Plan International - The World Bank team - Visiting agencies such as banks and insurance companies. The training featured in-house activities and discussions that enriched the learning experience. The hands-on approach and practical case studies enabled participants to grasp the concepts effectively. Participants delved into the critical factors that contribute to the success or failure of intervention projects. State Coordinators shared their lessons learned, providing valuable insights that will inform future project implementations. With the trainers now fully equipped, we are confident that the cascading of this training to the various livelihood collectives will be both effective and impactful. Sahel Consulting will ensure effective coaching and mentorship of the collectives throughout this process. In collaboration with the International Centre for Tropical Agriculture, Sahel Consulting trains climate change stakeholders in Abuja on Effective Early Warning Systems Nigeria's agriculture, primarily involving smallholder farmers, is highly vulnerable to climate variability and change, causing vulnerability and undermining yield gains. This vulnerability affects the country's low agricultural output, food security, and the livelihoods of millions of farmers relying on favourable weather conditions. Early warning systems are vital for enhancing resilience and adaptation of vulnerable populations to climate change. They provide crucial weather information, enabling proactive measures, informed decision-making, and protection of agricultural livelihoods and food security. As part of our efforts to "Building Agricultural Systems Resilience through an Effective Early Warning Systems in Nigeria (EWS)" Project, we organised a 2-day workshop for climate change stakeholders in Abuja on 21-22 August 2024. The two-day workshop aimed at enhancing the analytical capability of climate stakeholders, increasing capacity to support locally tailored climate analytics, aligning national early action systems for greater effect, and improving early warning system operational governance and cross-cutting activities. The project aims to enhance Nigeria's agricultural resilience by prioritizing vulnerable communities and promoting early climate action, thereby protecting lives, livelihoods, and ecosystems. Participants in the workshop include the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, the National Emergency Management Agency, the National Hydrological Services Agency, NGOs, and Farmers Associations, among others. The "Building Agricultural Systems Resilience in Nigeria" Project aims to improve early warning capacity, enhance climate analytics, align national action infrastructure, and improve governance, enhancing risk mitigation and adaptation for Nigerian farmers amidst climate change. Participants in the workshop include the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, the National Emergency Management Agency, the National Hydrological Services Agency, NGOs, and Farmers Associations, among others. #Sahelconsulting #Stakeholderworkshop #Agriculture
