At #ocmm , we are committed to conducting thorough Needs Assessments to ensure our interventions directly address the most pressing challenges in the communities we serve. Recently, we partnered with @UNICEF through the BERWASSA (Benue State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency) WaSH program to carry out a Needs Assessment in Mbagwaza, Ushongo LGA of Benue State. The experience was eye-opening, revealing the severe conditions that persist in today’s world. It’s a stark reminder that, despite the progress made, there is still so much more to be done to improve the health and well-being of rural communities in developing countries like Nigeria. The photo below shows an OCMM field worker inspecting one of the village’s pit latrines—remarkably one of the most decent facilities available, as open defecation is still common among the community members. In the 25 years of our being, #OCMM has seen the help of God in carrying out surgeries in the local communities where we have worked. There hasn’t been a single patient complication or death resulting from a surgical procedure, even where the environment is less than ideal. These surgeries range from minor surgeries like appendectomies to more complicated procedures like myomectomies. OCMM caters to the health needs of persons in underserved or rural communities, providing the much needed medical help where none would otherwise exist. Interested in the work we do?
