PROGRESS REPORT ON THE FRAMEWORK FOR THE INTEGRATED CONTROL, ELIMINATION, AND ERADICATION OF TROPICAL AND VECTOR-BORNE DISEASES IN THE AFRICAN REGION 2022–2030.
The African Region faces significant challenges in combating tropical and vector-borne diseases (#TVDs). Despite progress made in recent years, the region is off-track to achieve 2025 milestones for disease elimination and reduction. This is due to factors such as weak health systems, low intervention coverage, and inefficient resource allocation.
The Regional Committee for Africa has adopted a framework to address these challenges. This framework aims to strengthen integrated systems and services, scale up TVD interventions, and improve outbreak prevention and control at the ongoing 74th session of the
World Health Organization Regional Committee for Africa in Congo.
While some progress has been made, including the elimination of certain #NTDs in several countries and a reduction in #malaria cases, the region is still far from achieving its goals. Key challenges include weak #healthsystems, low intervention coverage, and fragmented programs.
To accelerate progress, the region must focus on strengthening integrated #people-centered health services. This includes developing integrated #NTDmasterplans and implementing integrated strategies for specific diseases.
And focusing on #communityownership which is a step down from #countryownership.
I believe, with this, we can cover a lot of gaps in our fight against TVDs and we can do a lot more through youth integration in our fight against these diseases in the African region.
