Here’s how to stay safe: On Foot: As temperatures rise, icy patches may turn to slush or hidden puddles. Stay cautious, especially near water, and avoid frozen lakes, ponds, and canals, as melting ice can be unstable. On the Road: As ice thaws, roads may become slippery and hazardous. Reduce speed, increase stopping distance, and watch for standing water that could refreeze overnight. For Pets: As ice melts, areas near water can be dangerous. Keep dogs on leads and avoid walking near breaking ice. In an Emergency: If someone falls into cold water, Don't attempt a rescue yourself and call 999 immediately.

In North Shields this week we have started ground investigation works after a report of possible mining related damage to two homes. Due to access issues it was necessary to use a crane to deliver a drilling rig to the back garden of one of the properties so that ground samples can be taken and examined to see if the cause of the damage is due to historical mining in the area. We have also installed monitoring equipment at the properties to provide reassurance to the residents. We would like to thank local residents for their patience and understanding whilst the drilling rig was being delivered. 🚗❌Over 300 impaired drivers arrested during December As part of the national Operation Limit, Lancashire Police have arrested 331 people for drink or drug driving related offences in December 2024, worryingly 24% more than last year.
