🚨 Chimney Fire Safety Alert 🚨 A warm fire is great during these cold months, but do you know how to spot a chimney fire or fire-related problems? 🔥 Here's what to look for and what to do: Signs of a Chimney Fire: - A loud roaring noise, crackling or popping noises from your chimney. - A lot of dense smoke, often accompanied by a burning smell. - Glowing or flickering flames visible at the top of the chimney. - Ash or debris falling into your fireplace or room. - A hot chimney breast or flue pipe, both in the same room as the fire and rooms that the flue passes through. What to Do if You Suspect a Chimney Fire: ✅ Call 999 immediately! Don’t delay – chimney fires can spread rapidly. ✅ Close the doors to the room to contain smoke. ✅ If safe, close the damper or air vents on your stove/fireplace to reduce oxygen. ✅ Get everyone out of the house and stay out until the fire service gives the all-clear. Prevention Tips: ✔️ Have your chimney professionally swept at least once a year (more often if you burn wood regularly). ✔️ Only burn seasoned, dry wood or recommended fuels. ✔️ Never leave a fire unattended or overload your stove/fireplace. ✔️ Check your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors regularly – they can save lives. Let’s keep our chimneys clean and our homes safe this winter.
