January can be a difficult time of year for many people, with the festive period over and the cold weather setting in. The NHS website has some useful tips on self care and the five steps to mental wellbeing to help you stay well (https://www.nhs.uk/mental-health/self-help/). There are also services here to support you including: - NHS 111 mental health triage - the NHS 111 mental health triage team provides mental health support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to people of all ages across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. - Shout text service – anyone in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight can text 'HANTS' to 85258 to speak by text with one of Shout's trained volunteers. Shout is a free, confidential, 24/7 text messaging support service for anyone who is struggling to cope. It won’t show up on your phone bill. - Kooth - an online counselling and emotional well-being support service providing young people aged 11-25 years (up to their 26th birthday) with a safe and secure means of accessing support with their emotional health and wellbeing needs from a professional team of qualified counsellors. - Safe Havens - there are several Safe Havens across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight which provide emotional and practical support to adults experiencing a mental health crisis. You can get support from staff and volunteers by telephone, email, text or face to face during evenings, weekends and bank holiday. - NHS Talking Therapies (previously iTalk) - a service for adults in Hampshire and IOW that offers a wide range of treatments, in a wide range of formats.

All hospitals across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight are currently seeing a surge in people needing care, as we face one of our busiest winter weeks. Hampshire Hospitals, who run Basingstoke and Winchester hospitals, have declared a critical incident due to the sustained pressures, which allows them to put measures in place to ensure services continue to run as safely as possible. There is currently a high number of unwell people needing hospital care, including with flu and other winter bugs. All NHS organisations across Hampshire and Isle of Wight are working together to ensure local people continue to get the best possible care. We are asking people to play their part by ensuring they are using the most appropriate services for their health needs. Some quick tips to help us help you as effectively as possible: - Get vaccinated, it is not too late to get your free flu or COVID-19 vaccination if you are eligible. - Remember the Emergency Department is for emergencies. - If you need urgent care, but it is not life-threatening, contact 111 first for advice on the best place to go. - Minor injuries or illnesses don’t need the Emergency Department and you’ll often be seen more quickly at a dedicated minor injuries unit or urgent treatment centre. 111 can even book you in if you call them first. - Your local pharmacist can offer you instant advice and treatment for a range of minor illnesses and ailments - The NHS 111 mental health triage team provides mental health support 24/7 - Make use of online resources, like the NHS website, to check symptoms and get advice if you can.
