Action Fraud issue new alert warning to look out for unusual messages or phishing emails from hotel accounts using the https://booking.com/ platform. Those using the platform https://booking.com/ to book their holidays or accommodation are being warned they could be targeted with emails or messages requesting payments from hotels who have had their account taken over by fraudsters. Between June 2023 and September 2024, Action Fraud received 532 reports from individuals, with a total of £370,000 lost. Insight from Action Fraud reports suggests the individuals were defrauded after receiving unexpected messages and emails from a https://booking.com/ account belonging to a hotel they had a reservation with, which had been taken over by a criminal. Using this account, the criminals send in-app messages, emails, and WhatsApp messages to customers, deceiving them into making payment and/or requesting credit card details. The specific account takeovers are likely to be the result of a targeted phishing attack against the hotel or accommodation provider, and not https://booking.com/’s backend system or infrastructure. How can you protect yourself? https://booking.com/ and Action Fraud are providing the following advice on how to spot signs of fraud and protect your https://booking.com/ account: ▪️ No legitimate https://booking.com/ transaction will ever require a customer to provide their credit card details by phone, email, or text message (including WhatsApp). ▪️ Sometimes a hotel provider will manage their own payment and may reach out to request payment information, like credit card details – before providing any information, always verify the authenticity of communication between yourself and the hotel’s account. ▪️ If you receive any urgent payment requests that require immediate attention, like a booking cancellation, immediately reach out to the https://booking.com/ Customer Service team via the details on the official https://booking.com/ website and/or app to confirm. ▪️ Any payment requests that do not match the information in the original booking confirmation should also be double checked and confirmed with https://booking.com/ Customer Service before proceeding. ▪️ Any messages purporting to be from https://booking.com/ that contain instructions to follow links and/or open/download files should be treated with caution. ▪️ If you have any doubts about a message, contact https://booking.com/ directly. Don’t use the numbers or address in the suspicious message and use the details from their official website. If you receive any suspicious emails or text messages, report them by forwarding emails to: report@phishing.gov.uk, or texts to 7726. If you’ve lost money or provided financial information as a result of any phishing scam, notify your bank immediately and report it to Action Fraud via their website or by calling 0300 123 2040.

Suffolk Police are urging Suffolk residents to be cautious and aware of fraudulent calls reporting suspicious activity on their bank accounts. There has been a rise in reports of courier fraud in the County with least at four reports of residents in the county receiving calls, supposedly from a Suffolk police officer, reporting fraudulent activity on their bank accounts. The victims were given officers’ names and collar numbers and are asked to contact police to verify these details. Courier fraud occurs when people are contacted by persons purporting to be police officers, or bank officials and duped into handing over money, valuables or bank cards, which are collected from their home address, often by couriers. The criminals use a variety of different tactics, often claiming that there is a problem with your account and they need your help to catch the real criminals. The victim may also be encouraged into handing over their bank cards and PINs, as well as high value items such as jewellery, watches and gold (coins or bullion). Victims can also be coerced into going out and buying items such as gold and jewellery from legitimate retailers on behalf of criminals. For more details about checking police officers’ identities, please visit: https://www.suffolk.police.uk/advice/advice-and-information/fa/how-to-check-an-officers-identity A police officer should never: ▪️ Ask you for your bank details or PIN ▪️ Ask you to transfer funds to another account ▪️ Ask you to hand over cash or bank cards to a courier ▪️ Ask you to pay a fine or a fee to them or a third party over the phone or online ▪️ Ask you for access to your computer, passwords or log on details over the phone or online ▪️ Ask you to register personal details in an attachment or website online ▪️ Ask you to 'assist' in an investigation by doing any of the above ▪️ State that you are committing a crime by not complying ▪️ Communicate in an abusive, threatening or coercive manner

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) is advising dog owners not to feed their pets specific dog chews from China following concerns from the European Union (EU) of a possible link to serious behavioural changes. The affected products include: Barkoo kaustange natur 29 cm Packaging: bags of 570 grams (with 3 chewing bones) Code on packaging (see photo): 1148655 MHD 04.2027 3200PF027 Barcode: 4260077047292 Barkoo kauknochen, geknotet natur 11cm Packaging: bags of 150 grams (with 3 chewing bones) Code on packaging (see photo): 1148592 MHD 07.2027 3200PF027 Barcode: 4260077046875  Barkoo Kauknochen geknotet 24cm Packaging: bags of 150 grams (with 3 chewing bones) Barcode: 4260077046899 Code on packaging (see photo): 1148657 MHD05.2027 3200PF027 Barkoo Kauknochen geknotet mit Spirulina 12cm Packaging: bags of 180 grams (with 3 chewing bones) Barcode: 4260077047261 Code on packaging (see photo): 1148654 MHD 06.2027 3200PF027 Chrisco Products: Chrisco Tyggeruller med kylling, 10 stk Item number: 12457 EAN code: 5764630124578 Use by dates: all dates Chrisco Tyggeruller med kylling & kyllingelever, 100g Product no. 12324 EAN code: 5764630123243 Use by dates: 01/12/2025; 05-01-2026; 15-03-2026; 18-03-2026; 15-04-2026; 20-04-2026; 01-06-2026; 15-07-2026 Chrisco Tyggeruller 18 stk. - hvide Product no. 12468 EAN code: 5764630124684 Use by dates: 05/01/2027; 26-02-2027; 15-03-2027; 18-03-2027; 24-03-202 Chrisco Massive politistave, 2.stk. - brune Product no. 12541 EAN code: 5764630125414 Use by dates: 26/02/2027; 15-04-2027 Chrisco Massive politistave, 2stk. - hvide Product no. 12542 EAN code: 5764630125421 Use by dates: 05/01/2027; 20-04-2027; 01-06-2027 Chrisco Tyggerulle m. kylling & kyllingelever, 1stk  Product no. 12624 EAN code: 5764630126244 Use by dates: 01/12/2025; 05-01-2026; 15-03-2026; 18-08-2026 Reports from the EU suggest that these products are potentially linked to dogs experiencing what is known as ‘werewolf syndrome’. Symptoms include panic attacks, aggression, spasms, epileptic fits and in some cases death.  There is no confirmed distribution of the chews to the UK and no cases have been detected in the UK. The FSA has been liaising with authorities in affected EU countries to gain more understanding of the issue. Advice for dog owners If you have fed the affected chews to your dog, stop doing so immediately. If your dog is unwell and has been fed any of the dog chews listed, you should seek veterinary advice and provide detailed information to the vet about the foods and treats your dog has been fed. Advice for vets Vets should be alert to symptoms in dogs presenting at their surgeries and whether they may be associated with the consumption of the chews, which have a long shelf life and may have been bought several months ago. Relevant symptoms include: ▪️ sudden behavioural changes such as howling, crying, aggression ▪️ epileptic-type seizures If vets suspect cases associated with dog chews, they can report them through the Animal and Plant Health Agency’s (APHA) Small Animal Surveillance.
