Just home from a few days away for Christmas and it seems our black bin didn't get emptied on Monday (due to be emptied Tuesday 24th). Anyone else in Essendine had this problem or was it just us?

Just been to Morrisons at Stamford. All freezers empty. Chiller shelves empty and butchery shelves empty. Meet and fish departments closed. Seems there cold systems have all gone down. Dont know when will be back up.

We hope you all had a good weekend despite the weather. Our PCSOs have been out over the weekend, carrying out routine patrols to target Anti-Social behaviour and have worked alongside SKDC Safer Streets team. They have also responded to a number of calls regarding children playing on frozen canals/reservoir. As the temperatures are due to warm up this week, it is even more important to ensure young people understand the dangers of playing on the ice, as any thick ice will start to weaken and melt.

Whilst on routine patrol this afternoon, it was noted that a number of young people were walking on the frozen pond areas of Queen Elizabeth Park, Grantham. The young people were spoken to and advised of the dangers of this behaviour. As the cold weather is due to continue over the weekend, the ice may continue to be appealing to young people in the area. Please ensure your child knows the dangers of playing on the ice and how to keep themselves safe: If you see someone fall through the ice: Shout for assistance; get help also by phoning the emergency services (call 999). Do not walk or climb onto the ice to attempt a rescue. Shout to the casualty to ‘keep still’ and offer reassurance to keep them calm. Try and reach them from the bank using a rope, pole, tree branch, clothing tied together or anything else which can extend your reach. When reaching from the bank, lie down to avoid being pulled onto the ice – this spreads your weight more evenly. If you cannot reach them, slide something which floats, such as a plastic bottle or football, across the ice for them to hold onto to stay afloat whilst help is on the way. If the casualty is too far away, do not attempt to rescue them. Wait for the emergency services while calming and reassuring the casualty. Why do we stop people for speeding? Well, we have a story for you. It’s pretty mundane… It’s not part of a target operation, enhanced enforcement, or day of action. It’s just an officer, doing his job. It was around 7 o’clock on the 7th January on Roman Bank at Ingoldmells, when PC Key stopped a driver for speeding and having a light out. This is the sort of stop we face criticism for from some. “Go and catch some real criminals” is a phrase we are familiar with. We don’t need any justification for taking action to keep the roads safe, however in this case the driver went on to fail a breath test with a roadside reading of 104ug – three times the legal limit for alcohol. It’s all in a day’s work for PC Key. Drivers causing a potential risk on our roads are not unusual or remarkable, sadly. As a member of the Roads Policing Team, this is PC Key using observation, judgement and the police powers available to him, in order to protect the public. In this case the driver was speeding and three times over the limit. In 2024, speeding, carelessness, recklessness, aggressive driving and drink driving were contributory factors in nearly half of all fatal collision on our roads. This is why we stop people for speeding.
