Bristol has one of the best collections of historical maps in the country, some of which are displayed at Bristol Museum & Art Gallery. Pete Insole will draw on his expertise as a historical and archaeological specialist to explore some of the unique stories behind the maps.
Pete is an historical and archaeological specialist with nearly 30 years’ experience of working in the heritage sector in Bristol.
There will also be complimentary tea, coffee, and homemade cakes.

The riots that took place in Bristol in October 1831 were some of the most dramatic in British history. In the immediate aftermath, the city was in tatters, with countless protesters either dead or dying, and dozens of buildings in flames or fallen into heaps of rubble.

Our knowledgeable guides will retell the history of this tragic episode, exploring some of the sites that played a prominent role in the unrest.

Work to make walking, wheeling and cycling through Victoria Street in the city centre safer and more appealing is starting from 14 January, including:

✅ building a two-way segregated cycleway
✅ junction and bus shelter upgrades
✅ installing living roofs on 2 bus shelters
✅ improving the public realm

The work, which will be done in phases, is expected to take around 15 months. Victoria Street will remain open with temporary traffic signals in use at times, so some delays are likely.

This £5 million scheme is part of the A37 and A4018 transport corridor project to improve the number 2 bus route using CRSTS funding provided by the UK Government and administered by the West of England Combined Authority. This money can only be used for sustainable transport projects.

The Met Office has issued a Red Weather Warning (the highest level) for wind in parts of South West England as well as the Bristol Channel including parts of Bristol ⚠️

This warning is in place from Saturday (7 Dec) 0300 – 1100:

🗑️ secure anything that can be blown around outside (including outdoor Christmas decorations)
👍 stay indoors as much as possible during this time
🌳 if you must go out try not to walk near buildings and trees

Additionally, an Amber Weather Warning for wind is also in place across Bristol from Saturday (7 Dec) 0100 – 2100 ⚠️

Caution during this type of weather warning is advised.
