TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Typhoon Krathon (山陀兒) will likely make landfall Monday (Sept. 30), prompting the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) to warn of potential typhoon days off in eight counties.
CWA forecaster Huang En-hung (黃恩鴻) stated that the intensifying typhoon could reach its peak strength between tonight and early Tuesday (Oct. 1).
The eastern regions, including Yilan, Hualien, and Taitung, as well as southern areas from Chiayi southward, are expected to experience the most severe weather, Huang said, emphasizing that these regions are most likely to have typhoon days off due to the anticipated heavy rain and strong winds.
Huang noted that Typhoon Krathon's storm radius is expanding, with gale-force winds extending up to 220 kilometers. The typhoon may make landfall in Kaohsiung or Pingtung by Wednesday (Oct. 2), potentially prolonging its impact on Taiwan. The slow-moving nature of the storm could result in a three-day suspension of work and classes, Huang added.
Northern areas, including Taipei and New Taipei, might also see typhoon days off. Although the rainfall in these regions may not be as intense, Huang explained that the gusty winds could still warrant a suspension of activities.
Residents should stay updated on the weather forecasts and prepare for potential disruptions. Authorities will provide further updates as the situation develops.
