TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Education (MOE) announced on Monday (June 24) that 75 American English teaching assistants will be introduced in the 2024 academic year to foster an English-speaking environment on Taiwan's campuses.
This initiative aims to enhance English usage among junior high and elementary students through extracurricular activities like clubs, sports, reading sessions, and camps. According to the K-12 Education Administration, this program, in partnership with Fulbright Taiwan, Foundation for Scholarly Exchange, began in 2021 and focuses on creating an immersive English learning experience in schools.
The MOE aims to utilize these teaching assistants to promote bilingualism as a regular communication tool within educational settings. Furthermore, the K-12 Education Administration and Fulbright Taiwan are extending their efforts to rural areas.
For example, they have collaborated with Nantou County to organize an English service learning camp. This camp, conducted entirely in English and incorporating games, provides students with a comprehensive English immersion experience.
