Who is Sydney Meyer?

Canadian actress Sydney Ozerov-Meyer was born under the zodiac sign Virgo on 15 September 1995, in London, Ontario, Canada, to her mother who’s British and father South African; her husband’s a Russian emigrant.

She has 24 acting credits and is perhaps known best for playing Nicole in five episodes of the 2021 action adventure series “Y: The Last Man”, which starred Ben Schnetzer, Ashley Romans and Diane Lane, and follows the life of Y, the last surviving male human on the planet; the series won one of its five award nominations.

Sydney’s today quite active in the film industry, and is currently shooting for new episodes of the action crime series “Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent”.

Sydney was raised in London by her father Jim Meyer and mother Kerry, however, because she respects their privacy, not many details have been shared about Kerry and Jim. Sydney rarely talks about siblings, but it’s known that she has a brother, Steven Meyer.

She studied at Lester B. Pearson School for the Arts as a child, and was 15 when she moved to Toronto, Ontario and enrolled at Etobicoke School of the Arts; Sydney fell in love with acting during her time there and also attended Stratford Shakespeare School during summer. She matriculated in 2014 and then enrolled at New York Film Academy, eventually transferring to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles, California, from which she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 2018.

Sydney’s debut TV series role was playing Ron’s Daughter in the 2013 episode “Devil’s Disciple” of the documentary “Dangerous Persuasions”, which starred Janet Porter, Megan Fahlenbock and Krista Bridges, and tells true tales of psychological manipulation.

The year 2013 also saw her play Paula in the episode “All I Wanna Do” of the romantic drama “Degrassi: the Next Generation”, while she could then have been seen appearing in an episode of both the fantasy “Saving Hope” and the mystery science fiction “The Expanse”. In 2019, Sydney portrayed Helen Blackthorn in four episodes of the action fantasy “Shadowhunters”, created by Ed Decter, and which starred Alberto Rosende, Dominic Sherwood and Katherine McNamara. It follows Clara who’s begun demon hunting now that her demon hunter mother’s disappeared, the series aired from 2016 through 2019 and won 13 of its 36 award nominations.

Also in 2019, Sydney appeared in both the mystery thriller “Departure” and the horror science fiction “V-Wars”, and the year 2020 saw her play Anna Delaney in seven episodes of the drama “Grand Army”, created by Katie Cappiello, and which starred Amir Bageria, Odley Jean and Odessa A’zion. It follows the lives of five high school students, and the series won one of its three award nominations.

Some of Sydney’s most recent TV series roles have been in eight episodes of the 2021 crime horror “Slasher”, the 2022 episode “Sorry, Not Sorry” of the drama “The Good Doctor”, and two episodes of the 2023 mystery science fiction “Beacon 23”.

Roles in movies

Sydney’s debut film role was playing Angie’s Friend in the 2014 short science fiction “Sprnva”, and the following year saw her play Feinstein Daughter in the short family comedy “Rita Mahtoubin Is Not A Terrorist”, written and directed by Julia Lerman and Roja Gashtili, and which starred Anthony Azizi, Dave Bean and Jacqi Bowe. It follows Iranian-born Rita Mahtoubian who’s captured the attention of a homeland security agent, and the film was nominated for two awards.

A couple of Sydney’s following roles were in the horror musical “Alleluia! The Devil’s Carnival” and the short romantic drama “Seeds” both in 2016, and the 2017 short drama “Separation”. In 2018, she portrayed Grace in the popular mystery science fiction “Level 16”, written and directed by Danishka Esterhazy, and which starred Katie Douglas, Celina Martin and Sara Canning. It follows a group of students who’ve just discovered that nothing’s as it seems at their boarding school, and the film won three awards.

Sydney’s since appeared in three movies: the 2020 thriller “Remember Me, Mommy?”, another 2020 thriller “Pretty Cheaters, Deadly Lies”, and the 2021 short comedy “L for Loser”.

Other credits

Sydney made a guest appearance in a 2020 episode of the talk-show “Popternative”.

Sydney rarely talks about her love life in public but it’s widely known that she’s today a married woman. She met Canadian actor of Russian descent Alex Ozerov in 2019 while they were shooting together for the series “Slasher: Flesh and Blood”; the two became engaged in June 2020, and exchanged vows in a small and private ceremony on 27 March 2021. Alex has 39 acting credits, and is perhaps known best for playing Mischa Semenov in seven episodes of the 2017 crime mystery series “The Americans”.

We don’t know about other men whom Sydney’s perhaps been with; she’s married to Alex Ozerov as of February 2024, and doesn’t have children.
