Is your city a child friendly city? Yesterday, just before the launch of the Families on the Edge: Penang Report, the UNICEF Social Policy team, headed by Representative Robert Gass, met with Dato' Ir. Rajendran A/L P Anthony, Mayor of Penang. Besides emphasizing UNICEF’s overall role in Malaysia, the team presented on the Child Friendly Living Cities Initiative (CFCI), including good practices from Petaling Jaya, Kuching and 6 other districts in Sarawak. The CFCI implementation framework covers child rights awareness, inclusive child participation, and child friendly environments. In another win for children, Dato' Ir. Rajendran agreed to draft an MOU, to formalize a collaborative relationship and gradually implement CFCI in Penang Island. Every city should be a child friendly city. With your support, we'll get there.

UNICEF Malaysia team, led by Representative Robert Gass, met with Minister of Finance II, YB Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah, to discuss improving social protection and public financing for children.    The courtesy meeting was organized to share UNICEF Malaysia's most recent policy paper publication, “Creating Fiscal Space for Constructing Malaysia’s Social Protection Floor”. We are pleased to build upon the collaborative relationship with the Ministry of Finance to gradually enhance the social protection programs in Malaysia and increase transparency of Public Finance for Children.

No matter how intense the heat, Malaysians are always up for a run—especially when it’s for a GOOD cause! 🏃♂️ 🏃♀️ We extend our heartfelt thanks to Sunway Group and its partners for bringing together 10,000 runners to raise funds for UNICEF Malaysia! Sunway Geo Avenue was bursting with energy on Sunday morning and our mobile fundraising team was among the crowd to share how climate change impacts children. Our Chief of Private Sector Fundraising and Partnership, Blanca Pérez Ramos and the corporate team had a pleasant networking session with Sunway’s top management, both teams are hopeful this is just the beginning of many more meaningful collaborations. Once again, our deep gratitude goes out to corporate Malaysia for supporting our efforts to reach the most vulnerable families. At UNICEF Malaysia, it is a privilege to witness the everyday kindness that flows through various channels. Whether it’s through events like The Good Run, individual donations, or corporate partnerships, the generosity and compassion shown by so many truly make a difference. #sunwaygoodrun #unicefmalaysia #sunwaygroup #championforchildren #coporatemalysia #childrights #climatechange #fundraising #CorporateSocialResponsibility

In collaboration with the Social Wellbeing Research Center (SWRC) University Malaya, we published “Creating Fiscal Space for Constructing Malaysia’s Social Protection Floor”, a policy paper, today. The Technical Document provides a comprehensive fiscal analysis on implementing one of the many policy recommendations under the recently published Living on the Edge (LOE) Report. It highlights the need to restructure the social protection system by building a comprehensive Social Protection Floor across the life cycle, covering pregnant women, children, persons with disabilities and senior citizens through restructuring existing social protection programs, such as the fuel subsidy. Being prepared can save lives! We're proud to be empowering teachers to create safe & resilient school environments. Flashback to last month in Ipoh where we kicked off our capacity-building session with teachers, focusing on disaster risk reduction. The training aims to equip teachers with the know-how to deal with natural disasters such as flooding & earthquakes, and then pass these teachings on to students: ensuring the children in their charge are safe from harm should such calamity strike. The team will be heading to more states soon! Here are some moments from the session. #DisasterPreparedness

Education is #foreverychild. Our team had the privilege to visit the Cahaya Learning Centre operated by Cahaya Society that provides alternative education for stateless, undocumented, & marginalized children. The centre teaches basic reading, writing, counting, philosophy, and music amongst other life skills. The children we met were hungry to learn and had so much to teach us. Stay tuned for a full article on the experience.

Imagine a seven-year-old girl who has experienced domestic violence, a twelve-year-old boy who has suffered sexual abuse or a fourteen-year-old girl who is a victim of physical abuse. Now imagine these same children, already traumatized by their experiences, being expected to recount their stories in court... Even adults often can't face this. It's countless times worse for children. But we can make it easier. https://lnkd.in/gMpDAYtF
