UNICEF Social Policy Specialist, Yin Yee believes in the right of all children to achieve their full potential. It's why she is such a great addition to the UNICEF family. "Growing up, my family struggled, but I was fortunate to access quality education thanks to my mother’s determination, the kindness of others, and a social protection system that provided financial aid throughout my schooling. These opportunities transformed my life and shaped who I am today." UNICEF is made up of amazing individuals who further our mandate for children. We wouldn't be celebrating 70 yrs #BersamaMalaysia without our beloved staff. 💙 #UNICEFBersamaMalaysia

Azlina Kamal isn't just our Education Specialist, she's a dedicated advocate who's been a UNICEF donor for many years. "We know there are still children who do not have access to quality learning – indigenous children, children with disabilities, children living in poverty, stateless, refugee and undocumented children. And elsewhere, children living in conflict. The challenges may be numerous, but like we say in UNICEF, we never give up! With perseverance, dedication, and an understanding that we are better and stronger together, we can overcome obstacles, we can do hard things, and together we can and will make a difference. FOR EVERY CHILD, EDUCATION" ~ Azlina Kamal. UNICEF is made up of amazing individuals who further our mandate for children. We wouldn't be celebrating 70 yrs #BersamaMalaysia without our beloved staff. 💙 #UNICEFBersamaMalaysia

Imagine growing up invisible — no school, no healthcare, no rights. That’s the harsh reality for many migrant and refugee children in Malaysia. Take a look at what Rose, a young Malaysian in her twenties, envisions for a fair and compassionate society>> https://lnkd.in/gJYdgjwS

I’m proud to share that I’ve been listed as one of the 100 Wiki Impact Changemakers for 2024! I first started doing environmental advocacy since I was 19 years old and fast forward today at 25, I’m still in this space: contributing, learning and growing. It was organisations like UNDI 18 and Malaysian Youth Delegation that began helping me to become the activist I am now when I joined them during the pandemic. Working at UNICEF Malaysia also meant that I had the chance to create sustained impact for the betterment of children and young people’s right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment. My advocacy would not have been possible without the peers that I have at Kolektif Iklim and Jejak Liar. We aspire the create more impactful projects next year, impacting more young Malaysians. I’m also so glad to see so many familiar faces on this list and am in awe of their efforts across different areas of advocacy like education, poverty alleviation and youth empowerment. Our work for climate justice is never done and I hope to continue to do this for the longest time. 🌏🌱✨

The Government of Malaysia - UNICEF Annual Review Meeting 2024 took place yesterday in Putrajaya, chaired by YB Datuk Dr. Zunika binti Mohamed, Deputy Secretary-General (Policy), Ministry of Economy, Dr. Myo-Zin Nyunt, Deputy Regional Director, UNICEF East Asia and Pacific Regional Office, and was joined by YBhg. Datu Felicia Tan Ya Hua, Permanent Secretary, Sarawak Ministry of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, key government partners and the UNICEF Malaysia team. We are grateful for the opportunity to discuss the year that was and reflect on key achievements and chart our future together for the best interests of children. Malaysia has been a shining example of how strong government leadership, combined with effective partnerships, led to impactful change for the rakyat. Since our establishment in 1954, UNICEF Malaysia is proud to be a trusted partner, witnessing the success and economic transformation over the last seven decades from a developing country to an Upper Middle-Income Country, expected to transition to High Income by 2028. During the review, UNICEF presented on progress made to strengthen systems, particularly in the areas of policy advocacy, evidence generation, and modelling innovative solutions to ensure all children in Malaysia fulfil their full potential. As we look ahead, we aim to tackle emerging challenges such as child poverty, malnutrition, declined learning outcomes and equity, violence against children and climate risk and disaster preparedness. Additionally, we must ensure that adolescents are supported, empowered, and have meaningful opportunities to participate in decisions that affect them. We thank the Government of Malaysia, specifically the Kementerian Ekonomi Ministry of Economy, for unwavering leadership and a shared commitment to this mission. Together, we look forward to take the partnership to new height in 2025. #BersamaMalaysia #UnicefBersamaMalaysia #MalaysiaMadani #ConventionOnTheRightsOfTheChild

Real-talk, Career-talk at UNICEF Malaysia! Can a professional from South East Asia make it up the ladder in the organization? Deputy Regional Director, UNICEF East Asia and Pacific, Dr. Myo-Zin Nyunt is proof positive it's possible. Today, he gave a special town-hall, to spill the tea and answer questions just like that for the Malaysia team. His advice? Amongst many others he stressed the importance of: 💡 Building a solid reputation for reliability and delivery (your reputation travels faster than your application)! 💡 Embracing networking 💡 Being data driven and analytical, 💡 Being strategic & forward looking 💡 And last but not least by any means, being bold enough to express yourself confidently. Career development is so important in motivating and nurturing staff to bring their best to the table for children. We hope there was some light-bulb moment takeaways for everyone at this morning's session!

Happy birthday to us! On this day, 11 December in 1946, in the aftermath of World War II, the UN General Assembly resolution establishing UNICEF and guiding our early work was passed. A lot has happened since then. UNICEF has been working in Malaysia for 70 years now but as we look back at our history, it is integral to also look forward: taking lessons from the past to #buildbackbetter in future #foreverychild. The world is changing but our fundamental belief remains the same: that every child has the right to survive, and thrive, no matter where they live. To that end, we continue to fight.
