We are excited to announce our investment in Hysata, a revolutionary high-efficiency hydrogen electrolyser technology company in Australia.   Hydrogen has long been recognized as a promising catalyst in the pursuit of clean and sustainable energy, given its versatility as an energy carrier. Green hydrogen serves a pivotal role in the effort to decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors, notably heavy industry, chemical production, and heavy transportation. Looking ahead to 2050, experts anticipate that green hydrogen will supply 10 – 15% of energy demand in a net zero global economy — calling for a substantial demand for electrolyzer manufacturing capacity, estimated between 4,000 to 5,000 GW. And, that's precisely where our investment in Hysata comes into play. Hysata was founded in 2021 by Paul Barrett, Gerry Swiegers, and Tom Campey. They are now rapidly scaling their operations to deliver the world’s lowest cost green hydrogen with their capillary-fed electrolysis (CFE) technology, which boasts a remarkable 95% efficiency at system level — much higher than what incumbent technologies can achieve. We are excited about Hysata’s groundbreaking work, which supports and aligns with TTV’s commitment to drive adoption of clean energy and decarbonization solutions. Earlier this week, Chee Ho Woo, Partner at TTV, participated in the Cleantech Forum Asia 2024, hosted by the Cleantech Group. Chee Ho engaged in an important dialogue titled 'Corporate Investing in Climate/Decarbonization: The State of Play in Southeast Asia.' The session was moderated by Alexandra Zakreski, Client Services Manager for Europe and Asia at Cleantech Group, and featured panelists such as Mike Lim, Partner at TRIREC; Om Kaosa-ard, Head of Venture Capital at Innopower; and Prempreedee Kitirattrakarn, Investment Director at PTT ExpresSo. Together, they explored the latest trends in climate tech investments from Corporate Venture Capital (CVC) lens and emphasized the importance of agility in corporate investing. Highlights of the discussion included insights into the evolving landscape of CVCs in Southeast Asia, showcasing its diverse structures and objectives. The conversation was centered around identifying the delicate balance between financial returns and strategic outcomes, as well as the role of CVCs as a conduit between startups and corporates – enabling the alignment of start-ups’ solutions to solve corporates’ pain points. With the climate crisis intensifying, a multifaceted approach is required from corporates on the path to decarbonization, including collaboration with startups, VCs, and other corporate investors.
