My youth organisation, Kolektif Iklim is organising a youth Focus Group Discussion with out NGO partner, the Malaysian Youth Delegation! Malaysia is set to submit its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) to the UN Climate Change. With that, we want to hear from young Malaysians between the ages of 18 and 30 years old about their concerns, experiences and demands when it comes to climate change. This Youth FGD is supported by UNICEF Malaysia and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES). Thank you to the Embassy of Colombia in Malaysia for hosting Kolektif Iklim to discuss what lies ahead at COP16 of the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD)! COP16 will have the expected outcomes along the lines of making Peace with Nature, Digital Sequence Information (DSI), the 8J Work Program with Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities, Means of Implementation for the Global Biodiversity Framework and Biodiversity and Climate Change. H.E. Alejandro Rosselli spoke to us about the role of young people demanding more from governments to address biodiversity loss, the importance of indigenous stewardship, environmental economics, the issue of transparency and how to start mobilising COP16 awareness amongst the youth. We also extended the invitation to our youth NGO partners, Malaysian Youth Delegation and Jejak Liar. Together, we will be launching a COP16 social media campaign to promote awareness about what’s happening there and its relevance to Malaysia. 🇲🇾🇨🇴🦋🌳

Ahead of #COP29 in Baku, Institute of Strategic & International Studies (ISIS) Malaysia in collaboration with Third World Network hosted a masterclass to explore pertinent climate negotiation agendas this year, including outcomes of the first Global Stocktake, Mitigation Work Programme, New Collective Quantified Goal (#NCQG) on climate finance, Global Goal on Adaptation, Article 6 and response measures.   The programme featured knowledge sharing from a distinguished panel of government officials, seasoned negotiators, climate experts and youth representatives. It also engaged various national stakeholders in breakout sessions where they brainstormed on four thematic agendas – mitigation, adaptation, finance and climate justice.   The insights from these sessions will be developed into a report to complement Malaysia’s national negotiating position at COP29 as the country strengthens its role in climate diplomacy.   A big thank you to all panellists and participants for their invaluable contributions, including Dr. Mohd Hafdzuan Adzmi from Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES), Meenakshi Raman from Third World Network and Sahabat Alam Malaysia, Datuk Dr Yap Kok-Seng from Academy of Sciences Malaysia, Aznie Rahim from Malaysian Water Partnership, Yin Shao Loong and Farhana Shukor from Khazanah Research Institute, Anise Kaz from Klima Action Malaysia - KAMY and Kai Sin Lim from Malaysian Youth Delegation.   #COP29 #climateaction #mitigation #adaptation #climatefinance #ncqg #article6 #climatejustice    

Kolektif Iklim is collaborating with Malaysian Youth Delegation and Engineers Without Borders Malaysia on the topic of water security in Malaysia ahead of the Green-Scaling Programme by Air Selangor we’re supporting! On our first post together, we’re featuring reports that intersect Malaysian youth experiences with water. These findings point to the fact that young Malaysians are vulnerable to water stresses like water disruption, water pollution and floods and that is induced by climate change. However, these reports also mention that the Malaysian youth must have greater access to decision making when it comes to water management and governance in the country! We’re also featuring youth statements from three members of Kolektif Iklim, MYD & EWB on what they think about the state of water in Malaysia. Today, I led a bird watching excursion for the participants of the Malaysian Youth Delegation’s Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) 2024 at the Perdana Botanical Gardens! With the help of 20 participants, we managed to identify around 15 species of birds at the park. I’m happy to say this activity was supported by our volunteers at Jejak Liar, members of the Young Birders Program and of course, MYD. I feel extremely fortunate to have collaborated with MYD in this opportunity to highlight the importance of urban biodiversity as a means of climate change adaptation. At Jejak Liar, we’re always happy to help young people develop interest in bird watching too! 🐦🔍
