On 8 October 2024, Datuk Hajah Nik Amlizan Mohamed, KWAP’s Chief Executive Officer, had the honour of speaking at the Khazanah Megatrends Forum 2024 (KMF2024) organised by Khazanah Nasional Berhad. The panel session titled "Stronger Together - Catalysing Growth for Malaysia" delved into the significance of domestic direct investment (DDI), emphasising its increasing impact on emerging and modern industries. The discussion underscored the need to shift greater attention towards DDI, as it plays a vital role in driving innovation, enhancing economic diversification, and fostering growth in cutting-edge industries that are essential for Malaysia's long-term economic resilience and competitiveness. Joining our CEO in the session were Dato’ Abdul Rahman Ahmad, President and Group CEO of Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB), Encik Ahmad Zulqarnain Onn, CEO of Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and Dato’ Amirul Feisal Wan Zahir, Managing Director of Khazanah Nasional Berhad. At the Invest Malaysia 2024 Conference in Johor, Malaysia’s Government-Linked Investment Companies (GLICs) reaffirmed their commitment to the Ekonomi MADANI framework by pledging targeted capital deployment in high-growth, high-value sectors. Launched by YAB Dato' Seri Anwar Bin Ibrahim, the conference themed "Where Policy Meets Progress" featured a panel where GLIC leaders, namely heads from KWAP, EPF, Khazanah, and LTAT discussed their focus areas within the Ministry of Finance-led GEAR-uP initiative, which aims to invest RM120 billion over the next five years to stimulate economic growth. What do you look for in finding the right talent? In finding the perfect fit for KWAP, the talent needs to subscribe to KWAP’s DNA and values. In addition, the talent also needs to culture-add and not just culture-fit to KWAP. We always strive to find the best fit for the job. 2. Green flags that talents have showcased? Some key green flags that talents have showcased include a strong alignment with our company values and mission, a track record of accomplishment and growth in their past roles, a genuine enthusiasm for the industry and the work we do, as well as a proactive mindset when it comes to problem-solving and taking on challenges. Additionally, effective communication skills, a collaborative spirit, and a willingness to learn and grow professionally are all qualities that we highly value in potential team members. 3. What are some of the red flags you found when interviewing talents? From my extensive experience in HR and recruitment, some critical red flags to watch out for when interviewing candidates include lack of preparation, negative portrayal of previous employers, vague or evasive answers, overemphasis on salary, poor listening skills and void of enthusiasm. Spotting these signs early helps in securing a good fit for both the candidate and the organisation. 4. Share with us some tips on how to ace a job interview. There are several crucial pointers in acing a job interview. First and foremost, ensure that you have done thorough research on the company you are interviewing for as it displays your interest. Secondly, practice and rehearse common questions to help articulate your thoughts clearly and confidently. Next, exhibit keen enthusiasm and passion for the role and the company as positive energy can be memorable. Last but not least, ask insightful questions to the interviewer(s) to showcase your proactive and thoughtful approach to the role you are applying for. The selection of the right talent is not simply an endeavour to fill in a vacant role, but an essential and comprehensive process in shaping the organisation’s future. On 11 September 2024, KWAP’s Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Hajah Nik Amlizan Mohamed, was invited to take part in the MIFC-UK Business Forum in London, co-organised by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and Malaysia International Islamic Financial Centre (MIFC) Leadership Council, or known as the MLC. His Royal Highness Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, the Royal Patron of Malaysia’s Islamic Finance Initiative graced the event, together with the Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia Dato’ Seri Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour, MLC Chairman Tan Sri Azman Mokhtar, and key stakeholders from Malaysia and the UK. The primary objective of the forum is to strengthen the Malaysia-UK collaboration by encouraging cross-border investments, especially in sustainable and environmental friendly industries - the green sector.
