Prof. Joseph E. Stiglitz, Nobel Laureate and University Professor at Columbia University delivered an insightful feature on economics and the pathway to a good society. Shafizal Shafaai, Khazanah's Chief Economist, introduced the session, setting the stage for Stiglitz’s thoughts on inclusive economic growth.
Core Session 3: Growth and Development – A User’s Guide to Industrial Policy
Prof. Joseph E. Stiglitz was joined by Dr. Nelson Barbosa from the Brazilian Development Bank and Dr. Tricia Yeoh, PhD from University of Nottingham Malaysia. The session was moderated by Yin Shao Loong from Khazanah Research Institute, the session delved into how industrial policies can drive growth in emerging economies.
Special Session: Stronger Together – Catalysing Growth for Malaysia
Top Malaysian leaders, including Dato’ Abdul Rahman Ahmad of PNB, Ahmad Zulqarnain Onn of EPF Malaysia, Dato’ Amirul Feisal Wan Zahir of Khazanah and Datuk Hajah Nik Amlizan Mohamed of KWAP Malaysia, discussed collaboration to strengthen Malaysia’s economic future. The session explored strategies for national growth and was moderated by Nick Khaw of Khazanah.
Malaysiana: Stories of Spectacular Malaysians
The heartwarming session featured inspiring Malaysians like Nurul Syahirah Binti Nazarudin , Teacher, Artist, and Dark Sky Advocate, Peter Kallang the Founding Chairman of SAVE Rivers, Archaeologist and anthropologist Emeritus Prof. Dato’ Dr. Siti Zuraina Abdul Majid and the Founders of Macaranga, Siew Lyn Wong and Yao-Hua Law. Introduced by Edmund Goh, PMP, Vice President of Research at Khazanah, these individuals shared their stories of making impactful contributions to society.
Feature Address: How to Boost Malaysia’s Workforce?
Dr Alice Evans, Senior Lecturer in the Social Science of Development at King's College London offered exciting insights on enhancing Malaysia’s workforce, which was introduced by Nurazeyan Khalis of Khazanah.
Core Session 4: People and Leadership – Building a Modern-Day “Team of Rivals”
Dr. Anya Schiffrin from Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs, Dr. Dr.Johari Jalil from Cenviro Group Sdn Bhd and Prof. Michael Muthukrishna from The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), exchanged ideas on how diverse leadership can create powerful teams in today’s organizations. Moderated by Effizal Faiz Zulkifly of Khazanah, the session explored innovative leadership strategies which can be applied to today’s institutions.
Closing Remarks & Address:
Dato’ Amirul Feisal Wan Zahir delivered the closing remarks, followed by a closing address from YB Senator Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, Malaysia’s Minister of Finance II and Khazanah Board Member, capping off an inspiring second day of #KMF2024.
