About Ryan Lewis
Best known for his work with rapper Macklemore, Ryan Lewis is a multitalented Seattle producer who charted an unlikely path to the top of the hip-hop game. ∙ Lewis was working as a photographer and graphic designer when he met Macklemore in 2006, and the two later forged a musical partnership and debuted with the 2009 EP VS. Redux. ∙ The duo’s Platinum-selling 2012 LP, The Heist, reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and won a Grammy for Best Rap Album. ∙ Two singles from The Heist hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100: “Can’t Hold Us” and the massive “Thrift Shop,” which spent 49 weeks on the charts. ∙ Macklemore & Lewis took home four awards at the 2014 Grammys, where they also performed their song “Same Love” as Queen Latifah read marriage vows to 33 couples in attendance. ∙ The pair’s 2016 album, This Unruly Mess I’ve Made, featured an all-star lineup of guests, including Ed Sheeran, Chance the Rapper, YG, Melle Mel, and KRS-One. ∙ On hiatus from working with Macklemore since 2017, Lewis has written and produced tracks for pop singer Kesha and underground rapper Hobo Johnson.
