About Charly Black

Reggae artist Charly Black started singing at age five, and he soon started winning vocal competitions in his native Jamaica. ∙ His first music gig was as a selector for popular Jamaican music troupe Bass Odyssey Sound System—a full-circle moment, since group member Squingy was his idol while growing up. ∙ Black made his debut as a recording artist under the name Tony Mentol with the 2004 single “Woman It’s You.” ∙ “Gyal You a Party Animal,” his breakthrough single, became a global hit in 2016 and was certified Diamond in Central America. ∙ His 2016 collaboration with Jencarlos, “Pa Que Me Invitan,” won an ASCAP Latin Music Award for being one of the year’s most popular pop songs.
