UFC on FOX 19 play-by-play and live results

TAMPA, Fla. – MMAjunkie is on scene and reporting live from today’s UFC on FOX 19 event.

The card, which features light heavyweights Rashad Evans vs. Glover Teixeira, takes place at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Fla. The card airs on FOX following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass.

Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos vs. Omari Akhmedov

Round 1 – Zaleski dos Santos gets to the center and paws a few jabs before firing a front kick. Akhmedov catches it but misses the counter. Both men miss powerful right hands. Akhmedov drives forward and scores a takedown. As he looks to posture, Zaleski dos Santos turns to the leg and uses the attack to sweep to top position. Akhmedov reaches over for a kimura. It looks tight, but Zaleski dos Santos rolls and spins and is able to pull free after a few tense moments. Both men still throwing heavy shots on the feet Zaleski dos Santos bringing wild kicks to all angles, while Akhmedov answers with heavy hands. Late takedown attempt at the bell. MMAjunkie gives the first to Akhmedov, 10-9. Very close.

Round 2 – Zaleski dos Santos opens with a crisp right hand. Akhmedov moves inside, and Zaleski dos Santos grabs the neck as they fall to the floor. No choke there, and Akhmedov is able to pop his head out. They both rise to the feet. Big leg kick for Zaleski dos Santos. Akhmedov returns fire with punches, and they both score flush. They move into the clinch, but not a lot between them. They reset in the center, and Akhmedov drops levels and scores another takedown. Zaleski dos Santos again to the leg for a sweep. They scramble, and Zaleski dos Santos rolls again for the leg and uses it to move to top position. Akhmedov scrambles up. On the feet, Zaleski dos Santos holding the center and looking to jab. Akhmedov continues to load up on the right. Zaleski dos Santos moves inside for a takedown. Akhmedov defends well, and we finish on the feet. MMAjunkie gives it to Zaleski dos Santos, 10-9. Again, it’s very tight.

Round 3 – Zaleski dos Santos gets to the center, and he’s looking to engage. Akhmedov still swinging hard from the fence. Akhmedov does seem to be fading a bit. Zaleski dos Santos defends a takedown and lands a big right hand. Akhmedov is hurt. Zaleski dos Santos tries to tee off. They clinch briefly, but Zaleski dos Santos pulls back and drills him with a right. Another right scores. Akhmedov is hurt, so he just leans against the fence and throws back. Zaleski dos Santos aggressive, knowing the finish is there. Akhmedov trying to answer back. Absolute war, and Zaleski dos Santos brings in the knees, as well. He lands direct, and Akhmedov covers against the cage. Zaleski dos Santos pours it on until he the fight is stopped. Impressive.

Oluwale Bamgbose vs. Cezar Ferreira

Round 1 – Ferreira misses a spinning capoeira kick. Bamgbose tries to push inside. Ferreira with a thudding low kick. Bamgbose rushes forward wit punches but doesn’t get through. Ferreira with another low kick, but Bamgbose counters with big punches up top. Ferreira misses a spinning kick, and Bamgbose tags him with a counter. Ferreira is hurt. Bamgbose swarming with punches. Ferreira somehow crawls back up to his feet. Ferreira drives through with a big takedown. Now Ferreira punching from the top. Bamgbose slows things down and finds a way to scramble up. Bamgbose looks very tired on the restart. Ferreira not rushing in. Bamgbose staying at range. Ferreira slips as he looks for a takedown, and he’s forced to the floor. Bamgbose stands over him until the bell. MMAjunkie gives the first to Bamgbose, 10-9.

Round 2 – Ferreira looking to start quickly. Bamgbose misses a flying knee. Bamgbose looking to strike, but Ferreira drives forward and scores another takedown. Ferreira looking to strike while he’s on top. Bamgbose looking to answer from his back, as well. Bamgbose just stuck in guard, and Ferreira happy to stay on top and rack up points. Ferreira posturing up when he can, dropping big elbows and punches. Both men covered in blood. Bamgbose trying to get free, but his escapes simply aren’t effective. Vicious work from the top. Bamgbose has no answer. Round ends with Ferreira in control, and MMAjunkie gives him the frame, 10-9. Borderline 10-8.

Round 3 – Fight likely hangs in the balance. Bamgbose needs to show some energy. He wants to strike and use that power. Ferreira happy to exchange right now, but he’s staying at range. Neither man committing much in the final round. Ferreira scores a takedown, but Bamgbose pops right back to his feet. Ferreira controlling the center and looking to strike. Bamgbose hoping to answer, but Ferreira changes levels and shoots inside. Bamgbose defends well, but Ferreira second and third effort get the action to the canvas. Bamgbose with full guard as time winds down. He really needs to change position. One minute left. Bamgbose again not showing much ability to get back to his feet. Ferreira happy to stay on top. Ferreira backs away in the final 20 seconds. Not sure why, but Bamgbose doesn’t do much when he stands, so it doesn’t matter. Bamgbose avoids a kick at the bell. MMAjunkie gives the final round to Ferreira, 10-9, and awards him the fight 29-28.

John Dodson vs. Manny Gamburyan

Round 1 – Dodson with a quick jab. He still looks to have his speed. He moves in and catches Dodson with a left hand. Gamburyan staggers, and Dodson is all over him. Punches come non-stop. Rapid strikes won’t stop, and referee James Warring pulls him away as Gamburyan simply can’t recover. The speed was incredible.

Randy Brown vs. Michael Graves

Round 1 – Brown moves forward to start, and his misses a few long punches. Graves shoots inside. Brown defends well against the cage and drops in a few elbows. Graves does get the takedown, but Brown is right back to his feet. Graves relentless with his takedown efforts. Brown has a wide base and spins off the cage. Not much they’re so they’re broken apart. Quick restart. Graves slips as they scramble, and Brown just misses an illegal kick to the head. Graves pops up and continues the scramble, getting himself to top position. Graves stacking things up from the top. Brown shifts his hips and starts to look for an arm. Not there. He keeps looking for it, and he shifts to a triangle late in the round. Time winding down, but Graves pulls free at the bell. MMAjunkie gives the first to Graves, 10-9.

Round 2 – Graves wastes no time driving for the takedown. Brown with the long frame underneath, looking for possibilities, but Graves is perfect on top, stacking things up and keeping control. Brown looking for options. He turns over to escape, but Graves is all over him. Immediately to the back. He goes to work on flattening out his opponent. Once there, the choke is quick, and this fight is over. Nice work from Graves.

Court McGee vs. Santiago Ponzinibbio

Round 1 – McGee pushes forward to start, and they waste little time getting down to business. McGee shoots inside, but Ponzinibbio pushes him away. Big leg kick from Ponzinibbio buckles McGee. Right hands coming from McGee, as he looks to keep the pace high. Ponzinibbio lands a big right. Ponzinibbio continues to mix in low kicks, and he brings the right hand behind it. McGee standing in the pocket and returning fire, but Ponzinibbio looks very crisp in the exchanges. They trade, but Ponzinibbio scores with a huge right hand. McGee hits the floor. He crawls up, but Ponzinibbio just swarms with strikes. Ponzinibbio all over McGee, who is in trouble. The onslaught won’t stop, and this fight is over. Great striking from Ponzinibbio.

Bethe Correia vs. Raquel Pennington

Round 1 – Both women feeling each other out. Pennington moving forward, but Correia throwing with more power. Pennington lands a crisp right of her own and moves into the clinch. Correia battles out of the position. Correia throwing with power every time, but Pennington moving well and picking her spots. Pennington scores two more crisp punches. Correia looks a little bothered by the blows. They move briefly to the clinch, but Correia pushes away. One minute left. Pennington becoming the aggressor. She’s moving well. Correia scoring with some power, but just not as frequently. MMAjunkie gives the first to Pennington, 10-9.

Round 2 – They engage quickly in the second. Pennington still moving well. She kicks the legs, and Correia looks to clinch. Nothing there. Correia flurries every time she gets close. Pennington pushing forward, but Correia is countering well. Pennington lands a big right. Correia answers with a combination and kicks the leg to close. Pennington still moving forward. She’s getting tagged as she comes in, but she’s landing, as well. It’s a brawl. They move into the clinch. Pennington with a few short elbows inside. Pennington wants a takedown, but it’s not there. Correia with punches inside, and Pennington answers back. Round ends on the feet, and MMAjunkie gives it to Correia.

Round 3 – Both women looking to strike. They flurry back and forth. Both women landing. Correia still looks the more powerful fighter. Still, Pennington is standing in the pocket and firing and landing. It’s fun stuff in a close fight. Pennington definitely the slicker fighter with her timing, but Correia is more direct and powerful. Correia shoots in for a takedown, but it’s not there. Pennington eventually pushes her away. Crisp left from Pennington. Time winding down. Correia wants the Thai clinch but can’t control her. Pennington with a few front kicks, but Correia answers with punches. Pennington moves inside and presses the action against the fence. It’s not there. They break away and trade until the bell. Close again. MMAjunkie leans slightly toward Correia, 10-9, and gives the fight to her 29-28. But this could easily go either way.

Michael Chiesa vs. Beneil Dariush

Round 1 – Dariush with a nice kick to the legs in the early going. He fires punches and scores another big kick. Dariush with a crisp left. Chiesa moving well, but Dariush is finding him early. Dariush continues to chop the legs. Chiesa having trouble early. He’s looking to strike, but it’s Dariush he continues to land clean. They clinch up. Nothing there, so they reset. Chiesa trying to change things up, but Dariush countering extremely well. Both men having some success, but Dariush’s shots seems to be the best shots. Chiesa scores a few knees inside. Dariush answers with a few strikes inside. Trip to the floor. Dariush gets to the back, but the bell sounds. MMAjunkie gives it to Dariush, 10-9.

Round 2 – Dariush goes right back to the legs to start. Dariush shoots inside, but Chiesa defends well and then scores his own takedown. He’s immediately on the back. Both hooks are in. Chiesa goes for the choke but can’t get it under the neck. He lets go, and Dariush works back to his feet. Chiesa aggressive on the back. He’s locked in and squeezing hard on the chin. He can’t quite get it under the neck, but he squeezes anyway. Dariush grimaces, and he has to tap. Impressive finish.

Cub Swanson vs. Hacran Dias

Round 1 – Dias scores with a kick to the legs. Swanson working a jab, but Dias answering well with kicks to the legs early. Swanson comes back with a chopping kick. Back and forth, and kicks remain the weapon of choice to start. Dias starting to ramp up the offense a bit with combinations. Swanson sneaks in a nice kick to the body. Swanson moving well, in and out of range, but it’s Dias who’s landing the more quality blows. Swanson with good head movement, but he’s walking into Dias punches. Another big leg kick from Dias. Swanson misses a capoeira kick, and MMAjunkie gives the first to Dias, 10-9.

Round 2 – Dias again with an early low kick. Swanson moving well, looking to get his timing. He does scores, and Dias hits the deck. Swanson swarms with strikes. He postures, and Dias tries to kick him away. Swanson moves down and looks to keep the dominant spot. Eventually, he backs away and lets Dias stand, too. Swanson with a right to the body. Another left scores for Swanson. Dias in the pocket, but Swanson looking like the quicker fighter right now. He stuffs a takedown. Swanson very active. Dias scores with a right hand over the top. Swanson with a low kick that topples Dias, but he pops back up and looks to throw. They smile and keep swinging. Good work on the feet from both men, but Swanson getting the best of it. MMAjunkie gives the round to Swanson, 10-9.

Round 3 – Swanson waves his first as the round starts. Dias pushes forward and grabs the neck, but Swanson pulls free. The two trade punches on the feet. Swanson going to the body. Dias the one moving forward right now. Both guys starting to load up on their punches. Swanson was better when he was firing combinations. He’s settling for single punches right now. Dias complains of a brief eyepoke, but we carry on quickly. Swanson picking up the pace. He scores with a high kick, and Horcher is on the floor. Swanson jumps on top. Big moment there. Swanson on top. He’s looking to strike. Dias trying to scramble up, but Swanson ensuring that doesn’t happen. Big shots on the floor in the finale seconds. Big finish for Swanson. MMAjunkie gives him the final round, 10-9, awarding him the fight 29-28.

Darrell Horcher vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov

Round 1 – Nurmagomedov misses a big right hand as he bounces around and looks to settle into a rhythm. Horcher with a kick to the legs. Nurmagomedov patient to start. Horcher looking for options. He’s firing big punches. Nurmagomedov shoots, but Horcher pushes him away. Nurmagomedov drives inside, picks his opponent off the floor and carries him to the center of the cage before slamming him down. Horcher tries to hold tight underneath. Nurmagomedov looking to advance, and he does get out to side control. Elbows start to flow. Horcher tries to roll, and Nurmagomedov nearly takes his back. He rolls and does give away the position. Nurmagomedov pounds away in the final seconds, but Horcher survives. MMAjunkie gives the first to Nurmagomedov, 10-9. Almost a 10-8 with the late action.

Round 2 – Horcher bleeding from his head, but he’s looking to strike. Nurmagomedov gets inside and starts to look for the takedown. Horcher defends well, but Nurmagomedov squeezes the body and pulls him over the leg. Side control for Nurmagomedov. Horcher looks to roll, but Nurmagomedov in the mounted crucifix. He’s punching away, and Horcher is trapped and taking punches. Referee watching closely. Horcher responding, but he’s trapped. Nurmagomedov punching away. Nurmagomedov out of the crucifix, and Horcher rolls. Nurmagomedov on the back with the body triangle. Big punches. Horcher covering, but he’s not really responding, and it’s finally stopped.

Rose Namajunas vs. Tecia Torres

Round 1 – Namajunas throws out a jab, feeling the range. Namajunas short on a high kick. She’s moving well and using range. Torres comfortable, but the length is noticeable early. Namajunas fires a combination and moves into the clinch. Torres answering when she can, and she catches a kick and unleashes a few punches. Torres still set to counter for now. She’s gaining some momentum. Torres with a crisp left hand, and Namajunas’ legs buckled. Namajunas tries to slow things down a bit. Namajunas with a late takedown. Torres kicks her away. Namajunas pushes back down but doesn’t land anything before the bell. Close round. MMAjunkie leans toward Torres, 10-9.

Round 2 – Torres busy to start, and she scores. Namajunas decides to taunt her a bit and scores to the body. Torres rifles off another good combination, but Namajunas does answer back with a crisp right. Great scrap so far. Namajunas stringing things together, and she lands a big left. Namajunas starting to use her range. Torres still moving well and using multiple shots when she’s in range. Namajunas slips on a flying kick, but she gets back to her feet. Torres moves forward and lands with a nice kick to the body. It’s still high-paced. Namajunas tries for the takedown, but Torres defends and spins off the cage. Nothing there, so they break. One minute left. Namajunas the one moving forward the most, and he’s getting her shots, but Torres is answering well. Namajunas clips her in the final seconds. Great round. MMAjunkie gives it to Namajunas, 10-9.

Round 3 – Namajunas gets to the center and looks to attack. Torres with a nice kick to the knee. Leg kicks continue to work for Torres. Namajunas still using the jab and sticking and moving. Tense work as this has been a close fight. Namajunas lands a left. Torres answering with flurries. Both women still have energy, and both looking to scores on the feet. Torres’ speed holding up late. Namajunas not landing quite as much this round. Namajunas with a late takedown. She moves to her opponent’s guard. She finishes by posturing up. Close round again. MMAjunkie gives the final round to Namajunas, 10-9, and awards her the fight 29-28. But another one that could go either way without argument.

They trade punches, and Teixeira scores, but Evans shakes it off. Teixeira walking forward and looking dangerous. He scores with a left hand, and Evans is rocked. Right follows, and it’s lights out for Evans. Big knockout for Teixeira.
