This article commemorates two late authors taking one novel by each as its subject matter. The first
author is Yaşar Kemal, whose Ortadirek relates the seasonal migration of peasants towards Çukurova. The
second author is Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Colombian Nobel laureate’s A Hundred Years of Solitude
narrates the tale of a Latin American village from its inception to its definitive drift in time and space.
Kemal criticizes the joint exploitation of peasants’ labour by their feudal village leader and landed gentry
through a family’s miserable story. Similarly, Marquez bases his criticism of the colonial abuse of his
country on a family’s tragic tale. Both authors resort to fantastic elements to denounce social and
economic corruption. Ortadirek’s chronologic map covers the 1950s while the other novel’s reference to
time is indeterminate. This makes the Marquez’s book a challenging read.

Öz Bu makale popüler kültür ürünlerinde mitolojik ve dini anlatıların nasıl işlerlik kazandığını göstermeyi amaç-lamaktadır. Bu amaçla her ikisi de sinemaya uyarlan-mış iki popüler edebi esere bakılmıştır. Bu eserlerden ilki Philip Roth'un İnsan Lekesi adıyla Türkçe'ye çevri-len The Human Stain isimli romanının film versiyonu diğeri ise Marilynne Robinson'un dilimize henüz çev-rilmemiş romanı Housekeeping' dir. İnsan Lekesi Yunan mitolojisinden Oidipus mitinin çağdaş bir yorumudur ve modern trajediye bir örnek teşkil eder. Robinson'un romanı ise yaradılış anlatısındaki suda ölüm ve yeni-den doğum mitlerini işlevselleştirir. Roman ataerkil toplumsal normları bükmek suretiyle var olabilen ka-dın kahramanlara adanmış gibidir. Abstract This paper aims to read two contemporary popular culture products with respect to their inclusion of and resort to mythological and religious elements. The first of these two works is the film version of Philip Roth's novel The Human Stain, and the second work is Marylinne Robinson's Housekeeping. The Human Stain can be read and watched as a modern tragedy in which Oe-dipus myth is successfully interpreted so as to criticize political correctness fetishism while Robinson's novel yields itself to be received as a redemption novel that employs religious elements of death and rebirth myth in water.

The purpose of this study was to examine the needs and availability of assistive technologies for university students with disabilities. The study also explored attitudes toward computers and the extent computers are utilized by students with disabilities. The participants were university students from one private and four public universities in Ankara, Turkiye. The results of the study indicated that students with disabilities utilized technology for different purposes such as writing and conducting research when the resources and support were available. Furthermore, relationships between students' knowledge, skills, attitudes, social norms, and beliefs were found. Through interaction with an advisor or peer mentor and through exposure to the experiences of role models, students with disabilities gain an appreciation of the potential challenges and benefits of international exchange and make informed choices about whether, where, and how to go abroad. By adopting strategies for inclusive advising and role modeling, less experienced practitioners can develop expertise and understanding for advising prospective exchange participants with disabilities. This practice brief outlines the steps taken by one practitioner in Turkey, where few inclusive exchange resources and role models exist, to adapt a U.S.-based organization’s strategies for supporting postsecondary students with disabilities in international exchange. In this study, the intertextual allusions in the fantasy novel Wyrd Sisters by Terry Pratchett were classified, and their Turkish translations by Niran Elçi were analysed descriptively. As the name of the book signals with its similarity to the “Weird Sisters” or “Three Witches” in Shakespeare’s Macbeth, it includes several intertextual references, including but not limited to Shakespeare’s works. In order to exemplify these intertextual references, six intertextual allusions detected in the source text were first analysed in terms of their forms according to Ritva Leppihalme’s (1997) categorization of allusions. Then they were classified as being implicit or explicit intertextual references based on the intertextuality theory suggested by Michael Riffaterre (1978). Following the classification of the intertextual allusions in the source text, translation strategies employed in the Turkish translation of the text were analysed in line with the strategies suggested by Leppihalme (1997). As a result of this study, it was found that three of the intertextual allusions are key phrases, and three of them are proper nouns. As proper nouns include the name of the intertextual reference explicitly, they are all examples of obligatory intertextuality. On the other hand, the key phrases in the source text are implicit intertextual references. For this reason, they exemplify ordinary intertextuality based on Riffaterre’s (1978) intertextuality theory. The comparative analysis reveals that the translator utilized a variety of translation strategies to render important phrases and proper nouns. In the translation of the key phrases, “minimum change or literal translation” is the most commonly used strategy; however, in translating the proper nouns, the translator has used three different strategies which are “using the name, adding detailed information”, “using the name with some guidance” and “replacement by another source language name”. Intertextual allusions have significant roles in completing the meaning universe of a text. This study shows that grasping the explicit or implicit allusions in the translation process contributes a great deal not only to the choice of the translation strategy but also to the transfer of the meaning universe.

Dünya’da ve Türkiye’de feminist söylemin oluşumu ve gelişiminde edebî eserlerin ve çevirilerin önemli bir paya sahip olduğu düşünülür. Bu makalede Türkiye’de feminist söylemin gelişiminde etkili olduğu düşünülen feminist çeviri örneklerinde yer alan feminist çeviri stratejileri, Women’s Estate (1971) ve The Rights and Wrongs of Women (1976) başlıklı iki feminist eserin çevirilerinde yer alan yan metinler üzerinden ele alınacaktır. Bu bağlamda Juliet Mitchell tarafından yazılan Women’s Estate (1971) adlı eserin Türkiyedeki ilk kadın çeviri grubu Kadın Çevresi çevirmenleri Gülseli İnal,
Gülnur Savran, Şirin Tekeli, Feraye Tınç, Şule Torun ve Yaprak Zihnioğlu tarafından yapılan Türkçe çevirisi Kadınlık Durumu (1985) ile Juliet Mitchell ve Ann Oakley tarafından derlenen The Rights and Wrongs of Women (1976) eserinin Fatmagül Berktay tarafından yapılan Türkçe çevirisi Kadın
ve Eşitlik (1984, 1992, 1998)’de kullanılan feminist çeviri stratejileri irdelenecektir. Bu irdelemede Massardier-Kenney’in “Towards a Redefinition of Feminist Translation Practice” (1997) başlıklı makalesinde ortaya koyulan feminist çeviri stratejileri temel alınacaktır. Yapılan değerlendirme neticesinde bu eserlerin çevirmenlerince tercih edilen çeviri stratejilerinin Massardier-Kenney’in yukarıda adı geçen makalesinde yer alan feminist çeviri stratejileri ile benzer olduğu görülmüştür. Feminist söylemin gelişim aşamasında Batı edebiyatından Türkçeye kazandırılan bu eserlerde yer
alan feminist çeviri stratejilerinin irdelenmesinin Türkiyedeki feminist harekete ve feminist çeviri pratiğine katkı sağlayacağı düşünülmektedir.

Bu çalışmanın amacı Edgar Allan Poe’nun The Masque of the Red Death (1842) başlıklı öyküsü ve Türkçe çevirilerini, çeviri göstergebiliminin sunduğu bakış açısıyla incelemek ve çeviri göstergebiliminin çevirmene ve çeviri sürecine sunabileceği katkıları ortaya koymaktır. Edgar Allan Poe’nun 1842 yılında yayımlanan The Masque of the Red Death adlı öyküsü ve bu öykünün Tomris Uyar (1991), Nebiha Şentürk (2016), Nazire Ersöz (2017) ve Hasan Fehmi Nemli (2018) tarafından Türkçeye yapılan çevirileri bu çalışmanın bütüncesini oluşturmaktadır. Özgün metnin göstergebilimsel çözümlenmesinde Sündüz Öztürk Kasar’ın (2009) Paris Göstergebilim Okulu’nun sunduğu metin çözümleme adımlarını çeviri göstergebilimi kapsamında derlediği göstergebilimsel çözümleme modeli esas alınmıştır. Eserin Türkçede yayımlanan dört farklı çevirisi Öztürk Kasar’ın ortaya koyduğu Çeviride Anlam Evrilmesi Dizgeselliği (2021) kapsamında değerlendirilmiştir. “Öyküdeki sembollerin çevirisi”, “Alımlayan özneye yönelik hitapların çevirisi”, “Metinlerarası ögelerin çevirisi” ve “Anlam evirici eğilimlere farklı örnekler” başlıklarıyla ele alınan çeviri değerlendirmesinde, toplam on altı söylemde anlam evirici eğilim saptanmıştır. Yapılan çeviri değerlendirmesinde hata avcılığından kaçınılarak çevirmen kararları dizgeselliğin sunduğu veriler doğrultusunda betimleyici bir yaklaşımla ele alınmıştır.
