More details have emerged about Sony’s upgraded PS5, which looks set to be announced next month.

Sony’s PS5 Pro hasn’t been officially announced but it’s been an open secret for a a long while, with dev kits (the version of the console given to developers) reportedly having been sent out some time ago.

Recent rumours all point to the console being announced at some point in September, with reliable leakers even drawing a picture of what the console looks like, based on retail packaging. This comes after tech specs leaked earlier in the year, which described it as having a GPU with 33.5 teraflops and a new in-house upscaling technology created by Sony.

The same person who leaked those specifications (which were taken down by Sony, thereby proving they’re real) has now made more claims about the PS5 Pro – stating that the dev kit version comes with 2TB of storage.

During an episode of his Broken Silicon podcast, YouTuber Moore’s Law Is Dead claimed he had seen a PS5 Pro dev kit ‘in a meeting with a source’, which came with 2TB of storage.

While he states that this amount of storage might not be in the retail version, it is likely, as in October Microsoft is launching a new 2TB version of the Xbox Series X, so it’s more than possible that Sony will want to match it.

Elsewhere, Moore’s Law Is Dead notes that the PS5 Pro dev kit had the ‘same two-prong power connector’ that the original PlayStation 5 has, which suggests it will not demand more power to run.

‘They’re not pushing this thing hard at all,’ he remarks on the podcast. ‘It’s probably going to be a very quiet and cool running machine.’

While it’s important to note that not everything in a dev kit makes its way over to the final release, this is still a strong indicator of the console’s capabilities. 2TB of storage would be especially welcome too, considering how much hard drive space games occupy these days.

Sony hasn’t announced the PS5 Pro yet but it’s expected to be revealed in September, probably during a State Of Play presentation. The company is set to have a key presence at the Tokyo Game Show next month, so it’s possible that the console will show up there too.

At this point, the main thing we don’t know about the PS5 Pro is the price, but considering the base PS5 Slim still retails for £479.99, expect it be upwards of £500 at the very least.
