Cole Palmer has played down any injury concerns after he limped off at the end of Chelsea’s Europa Conference League play-off victory over Servette.

The recently named PFA Young Player of the Year came on in the 58th minute at Stamford Bridge as the Blues ran out 2-0 winners.

Palmer was seen clutching the back of his leg while talking to Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca and physios at the full-time whistle before gingerly walking down the tunnel.

His visible discomfort prompted fears he may be suffering with a hamstring issue, but the 22-year-old has confirmed he should be fit to face Wolves at Molineux on Sunday.

Shortly before leaving the stadium late last night, Palmer was asked by reporters in the mixed zone about his fitness.

He responded: ‘All good, I’m fine.’

Maresca was also confident Palmer will recover in time to be in contention as Chelsea look to bounce back from their defeat at home to Manchester City on the opening weekend.

‘Cole felt something but it looks fine,’ the Chelsea boss told a post-match press conference.

‘They already checked and it looks fine so hopefully there is no problem and he can be available for Sunday’s game.’

Palmer was named among the substitutes for Thursday’s first leg clash but was part of the group warming up at half-time after a disappointing first 45 minutes from the home side.

Christopher Nkunku settled the nerves after converting a penalty after 50 minutes with Palmer one of three changes made shortly after, coming on to replace Marc Guiu, while Noni Madueke and Enzo Fernandez were also introduced,

Fernandez provided the superb assist for Madueke to seal a 2-0 win against the Swiss opposition.

Palmer was Chelsea’s shining light in an otherwise disappointing 2023-24 season for the club – his first after arriving from Manchester City.

The England international scored 27 times for his new club and was this week crowned the PFA Young Player of the Year following that sublime campaign.

It’s been a chaotic week for Chelsea with relentless transfer activity looking to continue until the window closes.

Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell have been told they are not part of Maresca’s plans this season with both expected to leave west London before next week’s deadline.
