Soap fans, we’re sorry to say that Coronation Street, Emmerdale and EastEnders’ schedules will continue to be thrown about in order to facilitate ITV and the BBC’s sport coverage.

Mostly, this is the The UEFA European Football Championship 2024. That’s Euro 2024 to those of you (like us) that are less football savvy. If Weatherfield County qualify – and as long as cheating Tommy Orpington hasn’t signed for the team, consider us intrigued.

It’s something which divides the fandoms, often at war with each other as to who deserves the coveted place within the schedules.

The championship takes place every four years, though the last one was held in 2021 due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The first game of the group stages kicked off on Friday, June 14th and disruption to our visits to soapland can be expected through to the final in Berlin on Sunday, July 14th.

As schedules are only published so far in advance, we only know what’s happening over the next week for now.

Up Next

There’s also coverage of Wimbledon approaching on BBC One. The Championships is the oldest tennis tournament in the world.

This only affects BBC One, which has the rights to air the tournament over ITV.

Don’t worry about the confusion though, as we’ve got you covered with a look ahead to when we can tune in to our favourite soaps…

When are Coronation Street and Emmerdale on this week?

Tonight (Monday, July 1st), the soaps air at a slightly later time to facilitate France vs Belgium.

Further disruption follows tomorrow (Tuesday, July 2nd) as there’s no Emmerdale on ITV1.

ITV1 soap schedule up to Monday, July 8th

  • Monday, July 1st: ITV1 airs France vs Belgium followed by Emmerdale at 8pm, and Coronation Street at 9pm (also available on ITVX).
  • Tuesday, July 2nd: No Emmerdale. ITV1 airs Romania vs Netherlands followed by Austria vs Turkiye.
  • Wednesday, July 3rd: Soaps air as normal on ITV1 and ITVX.
  • Thursday, July 4th: Emmerdale airs as normal on ITV1 and ITVX.
  • Friday, July 5th: ITV1 airs Euros coverage followed by Emmerdale at 8:30pm and Coronation Street at 9pm (also available on ITVX).
  • Monday, July 8th: Soaps air as normal on ITV1 and ITVX.

Luckily, it’s business as usual for the remainder of the week, albeit with a few later timeslots.

You’ll also be able tune in on ITVX from 7am each morning.

When is EastEnders on this week?

The BBC are doing something a little bit differently with EastEnders.

You can actually tune in on BBC iPlayer from 6am each morning that the show would usually air, so you can see them well in advance of their TV airing.

BBC One soap schedule up to Monday, July 8th

  • Monday, July 1st: No EastEnders on television, but it will be on BBC iPlayer. BBC One airs France vs Belgium followed by Portugal vs Slovenia. Two airs coverage of Wimbledon.
  • Tuesday, July 2nd: No EastEnders on television, but it will be on BBC iPlayer. BBC One airs Romania vs Netherlands followed by Australia vs Group F winner. BBC Two airs coverage of Wimbledon.
  • Wednesday, July 3rd: Two episodes of EastEnders will air on BBC Two from 7pm as BBC One airs coverage of Wimbledon.
  • Thursday, July 4th: Two episodes of EastEnders will air on BBC Two from 7pm as BBC One airs coverage of Wimbledon.
  • Friday, July 5th: No EastEnders as usual.
  • Monday, July 8th: EastEnders will air on BBC Two. BBC One hosts coverage of Wimbledon.

Luckily, BBC Two will be taking one for the team and becoming a temporary home to the residents of Albert Square for select episodes throughout the sports coverage.

To make matters more confusing, episodes are doubled up on Wednesday and Thursday to make up for the fact that they aren’t airing on TV earlier in the week.

Will any other soaps be affected by Euros coverage?

Unfortunately, there’ll be no Casualty on BBC One or BBC Two this week (as per last week), due to coverage of England vs Switzerland and Wimbledon.

Fingers crossed they’ll be back soon!

Luckily, none of the other soaps, such as Hollyoaks or Neighbours, are affected.
