King Charles has threatened to completely cut ties with Prince Andrew if he refuses to move into Prince Harry’s old home Frogmore Cottage, a friend of the monarch has claimed.

The disgraced Duke of York, who no longer carries out official duties, currently lives in Royal Lodge with with ex-wife Sarah Ferguson.

But the King has been trying to get his brother to leave the mansion amid rumours Prince William is looking to move into the home.

Charles is reportedly willing to pay for brother to live comfortably out of his own private funds.

A friend of the monarch told The Times: ‘Unfortunately, if Andrew refuses to leave within a reasonable time frame, then the King may be forced to reassess the whole package of support he provides.

‘And the duke would be required to fund the lion’s share of his security, accommodation and lifestyle costs all on his own – which, given the sums involved, is highly unlikely to be possible in the long term.’

Andrew could not meet the £400,000-a-year upkeep of the royal residence, which is worth around £30 million.

He has been forbidden for engaging in any royal duties over his involvement in the Jeffrey Epstein scandal.

The King is trying to get Prince Andrew to leave the mansion

Prince Andrew was told to leave the property, but was granted a ‘stay of execution’ after he made a deal with the King to carry out repair works on the property.

But pictures show the building needs more work, potentially starting a new row.

Frogmore Cottage is said to be in good condition after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle carried out renovation work, and would make significant savings if Andrew were to move in.

Andrew first moved into Royal Lodge in 2004 and signed a 75-year lease, paying £250 a week.

He also agreed to maintain the vast property.
