Enabling Positive Climate Policy Engagement

The Global Methane Policy Landscape

Despite recent methane policy developments, InfluenceMap's analysis indicates that there is still a significant gap in the adoption of ambitious methane policy and regulation, with industry actors largely opposing such efforts.

InfluenceMap's interactive map illustrates global methane emissions by country and signatories of the Global Methane Pledge. It also details which countries currently have methane regulations for the energy sector and agricultural sector, two of the largest contributors to anthropogenic methane emissions.

Since COP26 in November 2021, countries have increased efforts in developing methane policies, including regulations and pre-regulatory policy such as action plans. However, there is still a disconnect between countries supporting voluntary methane targets and action, and those implementing regulations for key high-emitting sectors.
