UK virtual Wikimedia Meetup 11
[edit]Date and time: Thursday 28 April 2022 19:00—21:30
(join at any time you can, no need to stay for the whole event)
Location: Online
We will use Zoom video chat, the link is below. the wub will host.
You can expect to meet some very keen Wikimedians, and complete newbies are also welcome, as is anyone interested in finding out more about Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects. We typically chat about goings-on in the Wiki-verse and life in general, and sometimes will work together on some editing. If you have suggestions for topics, please add them below.
Note that we're using video conferencing, but there's no obligation to have your camera on if you prefer not to show your face. Or indeed your microphone: some people do just come along and listen in.
Feel free to join from anywhere you may be, in the UK or elsewhere! And please invite any Wikimedia people you know (or have had wiki dealings with) who might be interested – spread the word!

[edit]Postcards and copyright
[edit]I have come across a copyright book in the local archive in which a local printer listed the photographers and artists responsible for over 1,000 photographs. The works of a couple of the photographers are certainly already in the public domain, and that of another will be so in a couple of years. As more and more of the work of late 18th/early 20th century photographers enters the public domain I am interested in any thoughts as regards an effective methodology which would enable other records also to be used and how to develop a collaborative way of working in this area. Leutha (talk) 12:26, 23 April 2022 (UTC)
- Leutha I have used postcards in several articles. For example, Peel House. I uploaded to Commons with a US public domain tag as it is pre-1927 (posted in 1924). Also the sheep image on G. P. Abraham, sent in 1922, Rustington Church by John White sent in 1905, and this image of Gloucester Cathedral sent in 1907, published by Frederick Hartmann. Of course, it is easier when the card has been used and the year in the postmark is clear enough. Edwardx (talk) 09:46, 27 April 2022 (UTC)

Discussion
[edit]- At one of the past online meetings, there was a lengthy discussion about which public library memberships in London were best for Wikipedia editors needing access to British newspaper archives (online). Could someone please remind me which ones those are? (Realise there are different rules for who qualifies...) (Besides Wikipedia Library / Gale / Times Digital Archive.) Cielquiparle (talk) 06:15, 15 April 2022 (UTC)
- I can't remember from the online meetup, but do recall discussing what various libraries give access to at one of the London meets as well. I think @Edwardx and @Joseph2302 might have some idea? the wub "?!" 13:37, 28 April 2022 (UTC)
