Revision as of 08:47, 12 June 2013
This page is for requests to have stewards grant or revoke administrator, bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight rights on Wikimedia projects which do not have a local permissions procedure. Minimum voting requirement are listed here.
Old sections are archived. The list of archives is below.
- Requests for bot flags are handled at SRB, and requests for global permissions are handled at SRGP.
- If you are requesting adminship or bureaucratship, and your wiki has a local bureaucrat, submit your request to that user or to the relevant local request page (index).
- For urgent requests, such as to combat large-scale vandalism on a small wiki, contact a steward in the #wikimedia-stewardsconnect IRC channel. In emergencies, type
!steward
in the channel to get the attention of stewards. Otherwise, you can type@steward
for non-urgent help.
Other than requests to remove your own access or emergencies, please only make requests here after gaining the on-wiki approval of your local community.

Using this page
1. Place the following code at the bottom of the appropriate section below:
==== Username@xxproject ==== (your remarks) ~~~~
2. Fill in the values:
- domain: the wiki's URL domain (like "ex.wikipedia" or "meta.wikimedia").
- user name: the name of the user whose rights are to be changed (like "Exampleuser"). In case this is for multiple users, leave this field blank and give a list of these users in your remarks.
- discussion: a link to the local vote or discussion about the rights change (for example, "ex:Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship#ExampleUser"). This should normally be for at least one week, but no more than three weeks (if so, you'll need to restart the process).
3. If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information.
Confirmation of signing confidentiality agreement
Certain permissions (notably CheckUser and Oversight) additionally require users to sign a confidentiality agreement. Users requesting these permissions must make a request below, and must also sign the confidentiality agreement with the Wikimedia Foundation. The request is placed on hold temporarily, until the receipt has been formally confirmed by the Office.

Hello. I was granted a three-month temporary admin status on 13 September 2012, then a six-month temporary term, which is to expire soon. I was advised to request extension a few days before expiration, which I am doing, or to hold a local election (which is not feasible due to low activity on the project, see link to inactive discussion above). Thank you. PICAWN (talk) 17:47, 11 June 2013 (UTC)

<translate>
- If you're requesting the removal of your own permissions, make sure you're logged in to your account. If you have multiple flags, specify which you want removed. Stewards may delay your request a short time to ensure you have time to rethink your request (see previous discussion on 24 hour delays); the rights will not be restored by stewards once they are removed.
- To request the removal of another user's permissions, you must gain consensus on the local wiki first. When there is community consensus that the user's access should be removed, provide a link to the discussion, with a brief explanation of the reason for the request, and summarize the results of discussion. However, as bureaucrats of some wikis may remove users from the administrator or bureaucrat group, please see also a separate list of these specific wikis.
- To request the removal of another user's permissions for inactivity, link to your local inactivity policy. If your site does not have inactivity policy, the global policy Admin activity review applies.
- See the instructions above for adding new requests. Please post new requests at the bottom of the section.</translate>

Please remove admin rights, because of one year inactivity --Bua333 (talk) 05:20, 7 June 2013 (UTC)
- Although the last edit is from 1 June 2012; the last log action is from January 2013 (a self-block). Under the "Komplette Inaktivität" section and "Zeit der Inaktivität" sections; it would not qualify. -- MarcoAurelio (talk) 22:18, 7 June 2013 (UTC)
- The single log action within one year was a self-block. From my point of view this was pure nonsense and doesn't count. (Otherwise we let the community decide.) --Bua333 (talk) 01:52, 8 June 2013 (UTC)
- I'm thinking that; even if strictly following the words of the policy, the self-block prevents the "complete inactivity" criterion to be fulfilled; a self-block with reason "globale Wikipause" isn't really something which stops the inactivity. If you want to look at a very very very old precedent in favour of removing, see this and the then-wording of relevant policy there. --MF-W 18:08, 10 June 2013 (UTC)

Hello to all,
I'll have a series of lectures and workshops through the program Wikimedia Brazil in schools, and it is very likely to begin on Tuesday, the 28th., where we will create a lot of new accounts in various projects, as will be unrealistic to ask every time, I like to have the ability to do this without open a bug all times. Thank you. Rodrigo Tetsuo Argenton m 16:02, 26 May 2013 (UTC)
- Do local projects know about your plans? Ruslik (talk) 16:54, 26 May 2013 (UTC)
-
- We announced it a few months ago when the project was launched. Including on newspaper article about it... (ie. w:pt:Wikipédia:Esplanada/anúncios#Matéria e guia da Folha de São Paulo sobre a Wikipédia e escolas). I do not know if they are following, but as you can see, it reaches almost all communities, we can not give all the details separately, so all information is gathered in wiki of the Movement Wikimedia Brasil.
- If you have fear of possibles reprisals of any community, I'm sure that will not happen, (maybe Wikipedia, but we will do not poke then tomorrow, and we can announce again...), at least to authorize Wikimedia Brasil. Rodrigo Tetsuo Argenton m 16:14, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
- Isn't much easier to request a temporary lift of IP cap than have one person creating all the accounts? Béria Lima msg 16:36, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
- You don't need this flag. You are sysop on brwikimedia wiki, which has SUL so you can create the accounts there and they can login on all Wikimedia projects. --Nemo 16:41, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
-
- No Beria, because we will gonna have many activities, for example, tomorrow 3 workshops, in two different schools. And usually those who know the technical details are not the people we're dealing with.
- If I create an SUL account, when they go to another projects they will have no problem to start to edit? And the process is the same? Is it just me log in with my account, and create another, and login again? I've never tested this, so I'm asking. And I still think that is better have the flag, cause with not, I will have to ask for them go through two wikis to start to edit, and this can be confuse.Rodrigo Tetsuo Argenton m 18:03, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
- I just tested this. It depends on whether you create the accounts by letting the software send a random password via e-mail, or if you enter the password yourself. In the first case, the user needs to log in with the temporary password on the wiki where the account was created first to change it. --MF-W 18:15, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
- Isn't much easier to request a temporary lift of IP cap than have one person creating all the accounts? Béria Lima msg 16:36, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
- Not liking this. Users should create their own accounts as such the lifting of the IP creation restriction should be the correct way to ago about this. Also, I've granted account creator rights several times for these requests and I never once saw it used, so I am very inclined to stop considering them and let it all be handled in the correct way, that is, bugzilla. I am also not encouraged by the user's vague ramblings of 'reprisals from communities'. I also note that local communities should be informed beforehand and with a little bit more than 2 day notice, and that we need an end-date in any case. Again tho, I feel this should be deferred to the the proper outlet for this, bugzilla and the lifting of the IP creation cap, if needed. Snowolf How can I help? 19:05, 27 May 2013 (UTC)
-
- First my main work in Wikimedia Movement is give lectures/workshops, second I was guided by staffs to acquire this flag. Exactly because I know that I would have to ask many times to release via bugzilla, and if their speed to respond are the same then other requests, I'll have to wait years for them to do, which is not thinkable. Also, lectures, and workshops, especially in Brazil, the dates are fully floating. Because of that, I'll have to change several times the bugs dates, and sometimes from one day to the other, I can not be held hostage to the developers as well as I am a hostage of the dates of institutions. And the numbers are likely to grow, we will begin work in schools that have more than 300 teachers, and who knows how many thousands of students. So that's why I'm asking, and some communities already very accustomed to having people coming from workshops such as Wikiversity-pt. I do not know the reason to complicate things further in a situation where a volunteer is willing to help.Rodrigo Tetsuo Argenton m 22:26, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

- Ok, don't give the permission, and the workshop doesn't work... this is stupidity... Much bureaucracy instead of increasing the number of volunteers and facilitate beneficial actions, this is the movement that I want out. I'm just fulfilling the last things that what I committed. I will not get involved in politics if you do not want to give permission, I only ask that you take responsibility and send an email to the schools saying that you could not make it easier for the activity occurred because of technicalities, damaging the workshop to be held. - It is not our fault. 'You' didn't request it to community.—Teles «Talk to me ˱@ L C S˲» 02:32, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

- I will not do anything on Wikipedia tomorrow , but I will do on Wikinews, as they are not responding another things... And Wikiversidade is very used to receive this type of activities, focus of the talks today!... WB: here... Rodrigo Tetsuo Argenton m 05:13, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

I would like to obtain the import right on the English Wikipedia, so I can restore some long-lost page history back to the Wikipedia database from my personal copy of the January 2003 database dump. My reasons for doing so are outlined in the above-linked discussion; it is not *strictly* about giving me the import right, but it is about allowing all admins to import page history from a hyperthetical read-only online copy of the 2003 database dumps (the latter action requires work from a Wikipedia sysadmin). However, it demonstrates that restoring long-lost page history is an uncontroversial action on the English Wikipedia. I could hold another discussion about the narrower question of whether *I* should be given the import right if necessary. Graham87 (talk) 06:30, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
