Last week, our team attended the review meeting for the BILASURF project, where a multinational team from 10 organizations works on developing a solution for #surface #functionalization, which aims to reduce friction and improve the environmental footprint of industrial parts. During the meeting, all project partners discussed different tasks developed and the results already achieved. Antanas Urbas and Žygintas Bernotavičius have presented the #WOP part, which comprises precise positioning of the complex 3D-shaped workpieces according to a predefined algorithm and integrating all components and modules provided by other consortium members into a machine suited for texturing the Demonstrators of the project. Special thanks to the AIMEN Centro Tecnológico for hosting the meeting! 🤝 Fraunhofer IWU, Fusion Bionic GmbH, bionic surface technologies GmbH, SuperGrid Institute, Global Hydro Energy, ZIEHL-ABEGG SE, secpho, Ceit Research Center. Wow, what a fantastic delegation (actually, two!) from the #EPIC technology meeting at #WOP! The EPIC meeting is happening in #Vilnius, so it's a perfect chance for EPIC members and guests to visit some #laser #sector Lithuanian companies. We're pleased to welcome everyone to our facilities at #WOP and grateful for the opportunity to showcase our #laser #micromachining! Let's meet at the meeting later today for our #presentation on "Generation of Bio-based Riblets to Reduce Drag in Industrial Parts using Direct Laser Writing Techniques" by our Head of Research, Vytautas Sabonis. #Selective #Laser-Induced #Etching (#SLE) is a first choice once looking for #microchannels, shaped #holes, #cuts, and 3D geometric shapes in transparent components, like fused silica, borosilicate #glass, and sapphire. Being of #excellent #accuracy and #speed suitable for the #industry, SLE is a two-step process: 1️⃣ First, we modify glass by using ultra-short pulse laser radiation. 2️⃣ Second, we remove the modified areas using wet chemical etching. Selective (SLE) means that modified areas are affected by etching much faster than unmodified ones, making it possible to achieve the desired result. So, what are the advantages here? 💎 All-kind of micro shapes – circular, square, irregular 💎 All glass types 💎 High aspect ratio – up to 1:100 💎 No micro cracks or chipping 💎 Hole diameter from 20 µm 💎 Smooth sidewalls, Ra <1 µm Interested? The need for custom solutions for various #femtosecond #laser micromachining tasks is a common occurrence. When it comes to laser systems, #FemtoLAB is the ideal choice. While working in the femtosecond laser field and exploring various research areas, we know how crucial it is to have machine flexibility to tune it for different applications. Also, how important it is to match the demands of diverse research teams involved and meet all their needs. That's why we developed the FemtoLAB - a femtosecond laser micromachining workstation designed for universal use, making it a perfect choice for #scientific #laboratories and #RnD centers. Learn more about the possible FemtoLAB applications and specifications in the brochure below. 👇 #WOP #femtosecond #laser #micromachining #workstation

Early autumn and Taiwan are already synonyms for the laser tech fields. And we were there as well😎. The visit started with the presentation at the conference 'The Future Trend and Application of Ultrafast Laser Technology', with #glass #processing being our main topic. Later on, followed by the #Semicon #Taiwan exhibition - an inspiration and a treasure for technological advancements. Good to be back! #WOP #Exhibition #Laser #Micromachining

There's no doubt considerable progress in precise alignment and positioning developments! While 2D #arrays can be fabricated using diverse techniques, femtosecond #laser #micromachining, together with selective laser-induced #etching (#SLE), used by Workshop of Photonics | WOP, demonstrates definite advantages in precision, consistency, speed, material versatility, and cost-effectiveness. Using our laser micromachining method, critical features such as #tight #tolerances, tight #positional #accuracies, and #hole #diameter - within the tolerance of ±0.25 μm - can be achieved. This tight control of metrics ensures well-controlled alignment that reduces insertion loss and provides good repeatability. If you'd like to learn more, send us a message! #WOP #Fiber #arrays
