Command AI (fka CommandBar)
You’re either building AI into your product now or you will be soon. You're also probably drowning in advice on how to do it, but most of it is fluff. Kyle Poyar teamed up with James Evans, CommandBar's founder and CEO (proud 🥹) and other 20 AI product legends to share some counterintuitive advice for baking AI into your products. Here are some highlights: Think differently 💡 Elad Gil says, "Your first AI product will probably be a fancy chat widget. The real magic happens when you rethink and integrate AI deeply into your product." Solve real problems 🔍 Joshua X. reminds us, "Cool demos don’t equal happy users. Build stuff people actually need." Design matters 🎨 Cameron Adams points out, "AI can do anything, but users need guidance. Give them a map, not a maze." Data is king 👑 Scott Belsky says, "The real power lies in your unique data and a killer interface. Fancy models are a dime a dozen."

Back in 2010 or so I was obsessed with game engines like Unity and Unreal. Sure, they had been around for a while before that, but for me, at that time, these engines unlocked the magical world of game development by taking away the pain of graphics programming, user input, platform deployment (Android Studio, looking at you) and so much more. In 2012 I think I made one game a month for 12 months. Yes, they were all terrible but that's not the point. The point is that it was fun and easy to make games. Remember the mantra, "make games not engines"? The same logic applies to building CAD applications. Developing an application that lets users edit geometry in a robust, easy, and scalable way is very difficult. If you come from game dev, you might think meshes are the way to go. That will seem like great idea until your users want to boolean two meshes that came from who-knows-where. ❌ If you've got lots of extra dollars to spare and you come from the world of engineering, you might consider licensing one of the desktop CAD kernels. Good luck to you! Have fun learning the math behind BREPs for the next couple years let alone shipping that application to paying customers to recover your upfront costs. ❌ At Metafold 3D our vision is to change this. In this talk, our CEO Elissa Ross demonstrates how we developed a personalized medicine application that any clinician could use in less than a week. ✅ Get started today with our #opensource SDKs: https://lnkd.in/gkETXB5k

Unveiling Jony Ive’s Next AI Venture: What’s Cooking at LoveFrom? Jony Ive and Marc Newson’s design studio, LoveFrom, is making waves with a new uncharted AI collaboration. They’re in cahoots with OpenAI’s Sam Altman to create a transformative AI device backed by heavyweights like the Emerson Collective. This device aims to craft a computing experience less socially disruptive than the iPhone. Ive’s meticulous obsession with design nuances finds a new playground. LoveFrom’s venture might shape future tech interactions by moving beyond screen dependence. Are they juggling paradigms like ambient computing and the Internet of Things? Yves Béhar isn’t thrilled, dubbing AI on smartphones a continuation of exploitative models. Some speculate if Ive’s innovation could surpass lackluster projects like the Humane Ai Pin. Will the AI device rely on inbuilt processing or cloud power? Design choices will significantly impact user privacy and security. LoveFrom’s environmental and sustainability values might shine through in this project, taking cues from their modular Moncler collection. Anjan Katta of Daylight believes reducing smartphone reliance in favor of more humane tech is crucial, echoing the ethos behind LoveFrom’s endeavor. Is this suggested device a potential game-changer, or will it inherit the pitfalls of today’s tech? Insights from insiders imply LoveFrom’s commitment to innovative yet familiar elements, pushing boundaries of voice control and contextual responses without overloading user experience. Intriguingly, do we anticipate a return to holistic, prosocial tech innovation that even taps into post-screen aesthetics like in the show “Sunny”? Or does the strategy involve chic rebellion from mainstream tech norms? How will 'the iPhone of AI' play out? Could Jony Ive’s expertise shape a new era of computing? Dive into this developing narrative, and share your thoughts! #FutureTech #AIInnovation #JonyIveDesign

I discovered a dark UX pattern today. Expectation: fly from Florida to California with the family, take off around 7am and land at 2pm Reality: 4 delays, 4 rebooks, only 1 of 3 bags delivered on time, and a last minute diversion. We rented an SUV and drove overnight from Las Vegas to San Diego. So what’s the product lesson here? This voucher was presented as a consolation to alleviate the inconvenience of being in the wrong destination. We were told we could fill it in and request reimbursement. Now here’s where things go batty. If you fill in the form, you are requesting a voucher. A voucher requires you to book Southwest again in order to receive any value from the concession. You give up your right to request a refund if you fill it in. I asked Gemini if there is really no refund option. After all, I booked a flight to San Diego and here I am standing in the Alamo line renting a car to take myself to San Diego. Sure enough, Gemini shares the refund link (in the comments if you need it). It’s almost identical to the link from the form the paper slip, except for one key difference. There’s an option to request a refund. Why do companies still do this? Let’s have 2025 be the year all products become more customer-centric. To 2025 🥂

We took a design process that took 6 weeks and shortened it to 37 seconds!! Huge thanks to Pixaroma (Ioan Decean) for some massive help with the platform design! Make your environment better, so you can live a better life! So, I spent some time with ComfyAI this week, and I just learned the nodes and how to put them together with our pretrained AI image generators (we call them loras), and we were having a difficult time with the system architecture layout; thankfully, Pixorama was able to show the underlining solutions in Comfy that allowed us to finalize months of good work, and we are happy to say that we are ready to release our product onto the world. @outdoorbuilders is grateful, and we will all be able to try it out soon! If you are interested Ai design work, look up Ioan Decean, or check some of his channels for inspiration, and if you want to make your environment look better, check out Outdoorbuilders.com!! https://pixaroma.com/ https://lnkd.in/dUzu8Xxx https://lnkd.in/d52NcZ5B Very cool #designwork #thought and #AI #systems #process #improvement happening with this guy, and at www.outdoorbuilders.com #home #Innovation #sustainability #ReduceWaste

Ok so listen I'm looking for engineers for tech startups in both SF and NYC....do we think this would actually work?? 🌎 I'm looking for the first US eng hire for a client in the TalentAI space. Think of them as a more robust option than LinkedIn Recruiter (so $$) that would help startup founders find and hire STRONG engineer talent effectively + quickly. It's no secret that US based eng talent is extremely competitive and the delays caused from an inability to find/secure the right technical talent are massive, esp in the startup space. But if you had a tool to 1) find the talent (domestic + int'l), 2) vet them AND 3) consult employment law --> think of how much quicker we could fill these eng roles and get to building 🛠️ The product has a bright future and needs a startup oriented Software Engineer who can retool this product for the US and guide the launch here. Details: -strong technical coding skills (React Typescript, Next.js, Node.js, MongoDB) -exp managing an offshore eng team ideal -some exp with setting up code reviews, structure for building new features, establish best practices JD in the comments! Engineers are experiencing a seismic shift driven by market volatility, the rise of GenAI, and new approaches to quantifying engineering impact. But there's a disconnect between business leaders and the engineers building their products. Now, to be clear, I actually don't mind the personalization of ERGs to fit the company. I love seeing things like Klaviyo's KRGs (Klaviyo Resource Groups) or Riot Games' RIGs (Rioter Inclusion Groups). The name or branding of the ERGs and ERG Program name is really a form of program customization - like giving a car a new paint job. The problem comes in for many companies who've put on this elaborate paint job of BRGs thinking that that's the real work vs the engine work that needs to be done (giving the ERG program governance, equipping the ERG Leaders with best community building practices). Also the misdirection of many companies with the title BRG to focus on driving business impact in all of the wrong ways is another major beef I have with the term. Nevertheless, it's all love regardless of what you call your program. 💛 We're all fighting the same fight here. #StrongerTogether #EmployeeResourceGroups #ERG #BRG

💡 Founders & hiring managers: How do you attract top-tier design talent to your startup? It’s not just about the paycheck—here’s what really matters: 1️⃣ Business Stability: Designers want assurance that your company isn’t going under in 6 months. Share facts and figures—demonstrate financial health, runway, and growth trajectory. 2️⃣ Sell Your Product: Why is it the best? How is it different from competitors? Showcase your product’s innovation and long-term vision. Designers want to contribute to something meaningful and scalable. 3️⃣ Design’s Role: A+ designers want to join companies that value design as critical to product success. When design is integral to your strategy, you’ll attract those who can take it to the next level. Boom! 🚀 #DesignLeadership #Startups #Hiring

Last week, drama unfolded across social media about Devin.ai, an LLM code generator marketed as a “complete developer.” It couldn't deliver. I don’t want to dogpile on Devin, I’m sure the company behind the product is doing its best and will make incredible progress over the next few years. They are undoubtedly talented marketers. I do want to make a point about LLM code generator tools. We’ve seen the promise of “generator code from natural language” for a long time. In fact, the roots of it go back to the late 90’s when folks like Ward Cunningham started experimenting with generating test code from excel spreadsheets and natural language descriptions. In 2008 or so, a tool called Cucumber became very popular to describe tests with natural language. It turns out that using natural language as a proxy for a programming language solves the wrong problems. If you’d like to watch the original video "taking down" Devin's marketing claims or hear about what we can learn about LLMs from a 15-year-old test framework, check out my blog. The link is in the comments. #softwareengineering #llm #codegeneration #programming #development

Check out this quick video on using meta-prompting to get the most out of the most advanced Gen AI models like OpenAI o1 and Anthropic Opus. By using a high-end model to craft prompts for more cost-effective models, I achieve the optimal price-performance balance. In this demo, I generate a 12-page PESTEL analysis for a public company in seconds with a simple AI agent. PESTEL is often done as part of customer success management or account-based marketing. The same method applies to other frameworks like SWOT, BMC, Porter’s Five Forces, or custom analyses. https://lnkd.in/ebSyiViE

OpenAI DevDay is in progress, but there are no livestreams. You have to follow along on X or someone's liveblog to keep up. The day is devoted to developer use cases, and we're not expecting any new models or ChatGPT functionality. Here are the ways in which I think what they've announced so far will affect the average person: 🗣️ Realtime voice interaction everywhere! Developers will be able to use the new realtime API to create the kinds of realtime voice experiences we now get in ChatGPT in their own apps. For example, imagine language instruction apps with realtime speech-to-speech interaction. ⏩ Faster, cheaper, better model responses. OpenAI has done a few things in this area, including prompt caching (making it cheaper when reusing similar prompts), and streamlined model distillation (allowing developers to more easily create smaller models from the output of larger models). 🔬 New vision use cases—such as in healthcare. Developers can now fine-tune on images in addition to text. This means, for example, someone with a biomedical image dataset could fine-tune GPT-4o to perform particularly well in a biomedical domain. You can find details on the OpenAI website here: https://openai.com/news/

I created a music album in under 45 minutes using Stability AI's Stable Audio. What I like most about #StableAudio is that they are being transparent with their training data. From their website they claim: "Stable Audio 2.0 was exclusively trained on a licensed dataset from the AudioSparx music library, honoring opt-out requests and ensuring fair compensation for creators." Beyond Vaporwave albums, I can see use cases for creating background music for ads, social videos and maybe even independent films- basically a companion to stock music libraries. If you haven't yet tried coding with AI, it's your lucky day. Over the weekend I joined the waitlist to try GitHub's Copilot Workspace and got my golden ticket this morning. I've been following along with a super simple tutorial so I can get everything set up the right way ( https://lnkd.in/dKRBSFsX ). Already I'm making progress with Kokoro, my mindfulness and meditation app. Github is working as my development and product management partner to create a roadmap for the app, making sure I have exactly the right tech stack for a superb result. I'm then taking all the planning work into Codespaces, which is essentially a cloud version of Microsoft's VSCode, and pulling in all the extensions I need, from Cline (formerly Claude Dev), Supermaven, and Aider, so AI can work with me to code the app itself. It's crazy how far we've come in such a short space of time. And if you haven't got your feet wet adding AI to your team, now is the perfect time to experience the future. Get on the waitlist for Copilot Workspace: https://lnkd.in/d-S4U56x

So many impressive things about Cole Medin forking bolt.new on GitHub and using LLMs installed on his local machine via Ollama to code with AI. We're at an inflection point. With the ever-decreasing cost of using AI models and the simplification of agentic AI with OpenAI's introduction of Swarm, businesses have never had a better chance to work efficiently and generate better outcomes for customers and their CFO. https://lnkd.in/dFBaAAwr
