Art of the Ancient Americas

Through the detailed analysis of the painting techniques, procedures and materials we try our essay focuses on  the complex topic of Mesoamerican intercultural exchange, to understand the Teotihuacan artists’ world, their training, and their probable relationship with Maya artists. We seek to shed light on communities of practice and knowledge in these different locations, and to explore how these may intersect with cross-cultural exchanges.

Contexts is the annual report of the Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology, edited by Kevin P. Smith. Its pages give an abbreviated overview of research, events, programs, changes, exhibitions, and teaching done with, in, and through the museum over the course of the academic year, both within its walls and beyond.
