Dominus Manuel imperator Constantinopolitanus, illustris memoriae et amplectendae in Christo recordationis, cuius beneficia et liberalitatem eximiam universus paene sentit mundus.

Manuel I Comnenus (Graece Μανουὴλ Κομνηνός; natus 28 Novembris 1118; mortuus 24 Septembris 1180) fuit imperator Constantinopolitanus. Manuel fuit filius quartus Ioannis II Comneni uxorisque eius Irenae (Piroska), Ladislai I regis Hungariae filia. Die 8 Aprilis 1143 pater moriturus in Monte Tauro Ciliciae, duobus filiis maioribus natu recentissime mortuis, filium tertium Isaacium absentem reiecit Manuelemque praesentem elegit ut successorem suum.

Anno 1147 Manuel accepit in imperium suum Ludovicum VII regem Franciae et Conradum III imperatorem Germaniae, duces secundae expeditionis sacrae. Ludovicus et Alienora Aquitaniae eo tempore uxor eius ferias nativitatis Domini celebraverunt Constantinopoli.
