my friend just told me that there’s a secret second dashboard that solely contains posts from people you’ve turned on post notifications for, and when i click the link in the messages it opens it within the tumblr app, so the tumblr app also has a secret second dashboard for post notification blogs, and the only way to access it is to open the link for it within the app.

i literally love tumblr

i have a private pinned post that just has a link to this dashboard on it, it’s great. two dashboards for life

wow! i was really hoping someone would organically reverse-engineer this and find that dash.

here are a few other “secret” dashboards:

these are all just taking existing feeds of content and putting them in a dashboard-like format… the “Stuff for you” tab/feed is the same idea.

I was sure this was going to be 5 rickrolls, but no, this is both legit and amazing.

Fucking incredible

Please appreciate how hard I have to work to keep a straight face when my boss starts talking about our ERP goals.

Yeah so on old-school text RPGs, ERP is called TinySex (from the platform TinyMUX), or TS.

Which made notes at T-Mobile where someone was troubleshooting something extremely funny.

“TS’d customer. This fixed the issue.”

I BET IT DID.

The Weatherization Assistance Program, which I spent several months checking off on the state database which read “opt in for WAP”. This was the year after the song came out.

Every GODDAMN TIME -

Very often at my work we have parts with orifices that are DTF (Drill to Flow). And we have a number of DTF machines to ensure these orifices flow properly (they have the correct hole size based on the flow rate of air in a given time period) during after being drilled. And if they aren’t the correct size we often clean up or enlarge the orifices by inserting a pin and running it around the sides of the hole.

…. there’s a new type of printing that’s Direct To Film, i forgot about the emails I constantly get about “DTF benefits”

My company has a field in the customer database called “prin”, and to save 8 bytes, in this the year of our lord 2024, they have abbreviated it by taking out the vowel.

Which means I am constantly being asked if I “can add prn to this report”

nuance for situation lovers: i would consider being able to use them as you can eat your entire meal functionally. to vote yes you should have good efficacy and using chopsticks. if you are inclined to write “kinda”, vote no

god i hope the cpsc takes the shot. i think this would dramatically change their entire business model. amazon makes so much money by selling defective or mislabeled or just plain dangerous products and then faces little liability because this stuff is actually being sold by random third-party sellers that don’t get vetted at all and can be hard to prosecute because they’re in china or wherever. this is a big part of what makes amazon so powerful and it would be good for everyone if they were forced to bear more responsibility for the damages caused by the crap available on their website

Here’s the link if someone can paste the article into the reblogs

www.wsj.com
WSJ News Exclusive | Should Amazon Be Responsible for Everything It Sells and Ships? A U.S. Agency Will Soon Decide
Dana Mattioli and Khadeeja Safdar

is facing a government order that could make it responsible for the safety of goods that it sells for outside vendors on its website and ships for them through its logistics network.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is preparing an order that could classify Amazon’s online retail business as a distributor of goods, according to people familiar with the matter. That designation could give Amazon the same safety responsibilities as traditional retailers and potentially open Amazon up to lawsuits and extensive recalls over items sold through its website. Amazon accounts for nearly 40% of all e-commerce in the U.S., according to eMarketer, a research firm.

Amazon has fought the distributor designation because of the nature of its online marketplace. The company sells some items from its own inventory, as bricks-and-mortar stores do, but more than 60% of sales on Amazon.com are by outside vendors, known as third-party sellers.

Amazon has said that it invests in product safety across its site. It also has argued that for those third-party sales it is merely a platform for sellers and buyers to connect, and therefore isn’t responsible for ensuring the quality and safety of products sold by outside vendors on its site.

Note that it is not an accident that this is happening now. One of the things Biden has made a point of doing is appointing aggressive and anti-corporate people to Federal agencies, such as the Consumer Product Safety Commission. There have been a string of rulings and rule changes from such agencies that have been good for the average American and/or good for labor unions, but bad for the big corporations.

UPDATE: Amazon is officially a distributor who is legally responsible to recall dangerous defective products! The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued the decision and order on 7/30/24 by a commission chair nominated by Biden in 2021. Democrats are the party of consumer safety and improving lives.

I went to a school district where it switched over to free lunch for everyone when I was in high school and before that I saw people go into lunch debt and have to take the cold lunch set aside for kids that couldn’t pay and it was always embarrassing for them. And technically those people’s families didn’t qualify for free lunch. But still their families couldn’t or wouldn’t pay for their lunch.

Once everyone got free lunch though there was no more embarrassment for anyone. And I started eating breakfast at school too because the breakfast my family gave me wasn’t always enough and I didn’t wanna be a bother by asking for more or asking for money to get breakfast at school. A lot more people started eating breakfast actually. Everyone got hot lunch. Everyone benefited. Poor families that couldn’t afford it, lower middle class families like mine who could put the spare money to use elsewhere, and anyone who just wanted extra breakfast and a hot lunch. It was an incredibly positive change for everyone.

Free school lunch makes life better for all students and also removes a layer of logistics that everyone needs to keep track of. The lunch line started going way faster because instead of waiting for people to add money to their lunch accounts we could just scan our lunch cards and move on.

We have such a long way to go to unlearn capitalism, if there can be literally any debate in whether we should feed children. Literally what is the point of a society that can’t even get that right? Why the fuck do we do anything?!

It’s crazy that we need proof that doing basic good things is a good thing

What’s the name of the book?

All the Painted Stars. It’s out tomorrow on the US. @a-kind-of-merry-war sent me an ARC a while ago and it’s a stunning read. May or may not have a post about it tomorrow if I can get my brain to cooperate.
