About
Disgusted Barbie or Shocked Barbie is a reaction image of a Mermaid Skipper Barbie doll with a shocked or disgusted look on her face, shot from an upward angle. The photograph first became the subject of memes in July 2023 and is most often used to represent emotions of surprise, shock, or disgust towards a subject. The meme is often used in image macros to represent the same emotions.
Origin
On July 16th, 2023, X[1] user @PickleMamaa quote-reposted a post by @SkyNews reading, "Hong Kongers urged to stare at smokers in a disapproving way to help create a tobacco-free city," with a photograph of a doll with a disgusted look on its face, using it to represent the way they might stare at smokers in Hong Kong, garnering over 29,000 likes in roughly two years.
The Barbie is a "Mermaid Skipper and the Sea Twins" Barbie doll from 1993. It is unclear where the exact image comes from, although it may originate from a TikTok[2] video uploaded by @barbie_shining_pink on June 27th, 2023, roughly a month before the X post by @PickleMamaa, garnering around 330 likes in roughly two years.

Spread
The meme spread as a reaction image over the following years. On July 23rd, 2023, X[3] user @KaylarWill used the reaction image in response to a post reading, "sorry, but I’m wearing black to see Barbie," garnering over 30,000 likes in roughly two years. The post was shared to /r/BlackPeopleTwitter[4] that day, garnering over 1,200 upvotes in the same span of time.
On August 15th, the @buzzfeed Threads[5] account posted the meme, writing, "realizing we're two weeks from September," garnering over 5,800 likes and 1,900 reposts in two years.
On September 9th, Imgur[6] user donutjudgeme posted an image macro using the image captioned, "my face when someone says their boyfriend won't let them," garnering over 109,000 views in two years. On September 16th, the meme was posted to /r/meirl,[7] garnering over 32,000 upvotes in the same span of time.
On April 19th, 2024, Instagram[8] user tuparejaaideal posted a version of the meme with a caption that roughly translates to, "My sweetheart: The good thing is that you are not crazy jealou | Me:," garnering over 17,000 likes in nine months.
On September 10th, the image was posted to /r/blursedimages[9] under the title "blursed Barbie," garnering over 470 upvotes in four months. On January 22nd, 2025, a Redditor asked about the meme in a post to /r/OutOfTheLoop.[10]
