Local evidence for local solutions
About us
Local evidence for local solutions The Partnership for Economic Policy (PEP) is a Southern-led global organisation dedicated to supporting development in the Global South. PEP does this by providing high-quality, locally-generated evidence that informs better decisions in policy and practice. To achieve this, PEP supports the work, strengthens the capacity and promotes the findings of local researchers in developing countries; facilitates engagement and collaboration between researchers and policymakers; and creates a space for learning and knowledge-sharing between researchers throughout the globe.

The underrepresentation of Southern researchers in academic journals and conferences impacts the global development research and policy agenda. Initiatives that address the skewed composition of editorial boards, the barriers faced by Southern researchers in attending conferences, and that support international research collaborations are needed. Originally published on VoxDev, this article by Professors Ana Lucia Kassouf, Verónica Amarante, and Jane Mariara highlights the critical underrepresentation of Southern researchers in global development forums. This blog discusses how Southern scholars, with their local insights, are uniquely equipped to drive sustainable development but often face barriers in publishing and participating in conferences. We believe that Context Matters. This is why PEP supports in-country experts to produce the evidence that will inform sustainable and inclusive policies. So who better than our researchers to explain the importance of local perspectives for informing policy? Discover what our researchers have to say in our new Context Matters blog series. The second interview is with Lucas Ronconi, a PEP Research Fellow and Professor of Economics, Universidad de Buenos Aires-CONICET, Argentina. He emphasizes that labor market regulations need country-specific contextualization based in empirical research, as assumptions about enforcement and impact differ greatly between developed and developing countries, often leading to inaccurate conclusions in policy debates. 🎉 Today’s the day! Join us at 9 AM EST for a powerful dialogue on enhancing North-South collaboration. For over 20 years, PEP has been a strong advocate for localization in development research, working to integrate Southern perspectives into the global policy landscape. This webinar builds on our longstanding commitment and supports our Call to Action to achieve equity in development research. Let’s come together to discuss how we can foster more inclusive and equitable participation for researchers from the Global South – with a focus on women researchers – in collaboration with the Global North. A team of affiliated PEP researchers organized a National policy conference in Islamabad to present findings from the Center for Global Development-Pakistan program on how multilateral development banks can better support the green energy transition and financing in the Global South. The program explores strategies for MDBs to support Pakistan’s green energy transition and sustainable financing. Recognizing green energy as essential to Pakistan’s economic and environmental goals, over 30 policymakers and stakeholders from the government, international organizations, academia, and the private sector attended the conference to discuss the project’s findings and recommendations. Team members Dr. Vaqar Ahmed and Muhammad Zeshan presented the findings and recommendations focusing on the critical role MDBs can play in Pakistan’s shift toward renewable energy through targeted subsidies, policy reforms, and enhanced green financing mechanisms. 🗞️ Read the news story here: https://lnkd.in/gu83U_Qc
