In the face of global challenges, the need for sustainable, customer-centric business models that balance profitability with environmental and social responsibility is more urgent than ever. With over 30 million internal combustion motorbikes on Africa’s roads, the health and environmental stakes are high—but there’s a solution: aligning profit with purpose. That’s why entrepreneurs like Janet inspire us. Janet, a Kenyan entrepreneur, entered the male-dominated motorbike rental business, but managing her fleet was challenging. After switching to M-KOPA’s electric motorbikes, which reduce CO2 emissions and toxic air pollution by more than 90% and come equipped with tracking systems for efficient management, her business grew from one to three bikes in just two months. Now, she’s even teaching her daughter the business. For Janet, profit met purpose—and she’s thriving. Stories like Janet’s push us to innovate further. So far, we’ve sold 1,500 electric bikes, avoided 2.1 million tonnes of CO2, and improved energy access for over 1 million people.
