Flone initiative is part of a two-day regional exchange and capacity-building workshop organised by Transformative Urban Mobility Initiative and World Resources Institute. It has brought together 10 government officials from different African cities to enhance their capacity and knowledge in using open data sources in public transport integration and improvement solutions to help foster the realisation of SDG 11 on safe, sustainable, and accessible urban mobility. On day one: the training focused on developing a proper understanding of open data sources and data infrastructure to support data-driven decision-making in urban mobility. It also highlighted case studies of cities that have integrated open-source data to enhance public transport services and passenger information. The training concluded with a hands-on activity on conducting public transport accessibility analysis that can help in identifying areas within the city that are underserved by transport. #floneinitiative

Did you know? Persons with disabilities often face substantial social challenges when using public transport in Kenya. Social stigma and a lack of awareness contribute to their difficulties. According to a 2020 survey by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), only 20% of respondents reported a positive perception of persons with disabilities in public spaces, reflecting underlying societal attitudes. Additionally, public transport staff frequently lack training on disability awareness, resulting in inconsistent and inadequate assistance.
