Esak yesterday hosted a session on 𝙀𝙭𝙥𝙡𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙊𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙋𝙧𝙞𝙫𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙎𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙤𝙧 𝙋𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙥𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙞𝙣 𝙏𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙨𝙢𝙞𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙄𝙣𝙛𝙧𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙘𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 with Ketraco's MD and CEO Dr. Eng. John Mativo MBS. Kenya's transmission sector has since opened up to allow private investors to invest in expanding the electricity networks to meet growing demand and achieve universal energy access and renewable energy goals. The meeting which attracted banks, pension schemes, and other private-sector investors explored the PPP model, risks, asset monetization, and investment opportunities. Private sector involvement in such projects has proven a good deal resulting in high efficiency, innovation and technology transfer, ease in flexibility and responsiveness to changing market trends not to mention the shared risk component. Speaking at the opening, ESAK Board chair Eddy Njoroge expressed his appreciation for Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO) efforts to improve the transmission network, and that PPPs are a good and faster way to achieve this. Last week, ESAK was part of a joint workshop by SEI — Stockholm Environment Institute on 𝑨𝒔𝒔𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒓𝒐𝒍𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒌 𝒎𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒈𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒖𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒘𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒈𝒚 𝒊𝒏𝒗𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝑬𝒂𝒔𝒕 𝑨𝒇𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒂. The workshop sought to explore a better understanding of existing risk mitigation instruments, including their role in ensuring project viability and resilience during challenging economic times. The stakeholders discussed the future of risk mitigation and how to make it more effective, sustainable, and scalable. The workshop culminated with a field trip to one of ESAK's member power plants- Kipeto Energy PLC. Kipeto Wind Farm is a 100MW onshore wind farm located in Kajiado, Kenya.
