These two cows you see here are my gold!” Mugo says Meet Mugo, a 60-year-old farmer from #Embu County whose cows are his lifeline. After a tough past, Mugo found his calling in dairy farming. What started with two calves has blossomed into a thriving small farm. Every day, Mugo milks his two cows—producing up to 22 liters of milk. He keeps 3 liters for his family and sells the rest to Tegemeo Self-help Dairy Cooperative, where he is a member. The road hasn’t always been easy, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, which brought challenges like rising costs and disrupted access to resources. But thanks to the 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐎𝐕𝐈𝐃-𝟏𝟗 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐠𝐫𝐢-𝐟𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐊𝐞𝐧𝐲𝐚 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭, funded by Italian Agency for Development Cooperation - Nairobi Office (AICS), Mugo’s dairy farm is developing. Mugo is receiving support like subsidized fodder kits, agribusiness training, extension services through the Agri-producer groups, helping him and 15,000 other farmers across #Meru, #TharakaNithi, and #Embu counties to realize their livelihoods. Mugo dreams of expanding his herd and building his wife a storey house—with the income earned from his beloved cows. Young #refugees need support, access to #education and a purposeful #future: that’s what we are trying to accomplish in the Dadaab refugee camp in #Kenya together with the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration and the Italian Ministero degli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale. Here, kids like Martin and his brother Kok can attend primary school, while also promoting the importance of receiving an #education among other children. As Scouts, they try to lead by example and spread positive change, as part of a project carried out together with the Lutheran World Federation, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and the #KenyaScoutAssociation. On #WorldBreastFeedingWeek, AVSI Foundation stands in solidarity with World Health Organization. Breast milk is the ideal food for infants. It is safe, clean and contains antibodies which help protect against many common childhood illnesses. Breastmilk provides all the energy and nutrients that the infant needs for the first months of life, and it continues to provide up to half or more of a child’s nutritional needs during the second half of the first year, and up to one third during the second year of life. AVSI Foundation through the #USAID Tumikia Mtoto project, led by World Vision Kenya educates on #health and #nutrition in its programs to promote child and family well being for healthy communities. #PeopleForDevelopment
