🧠 Africa Institute of Mental and Brain Health will take part in the biennial Brain Ageing and Dementia in LMICs conference where global experts in the dementia space will gather to explore the rising burden of cerebrovascular and neurodegenerative diseases, including HIV-related dementias, across low-and middle-income countries (LMICs). Abstract submissions (250-300 words) for poster and oral presentations are now open and will be closed on 👉 15th September 2024. A select number of abstracts will be featured in oral sessions, while most will be displayed as posters during the symposium. All accepted abstracts will be included in an abstract book available to delegates and may be considered for publication in a peer-reviewed journal. As we step into September an Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, we want to highlight the incredible work of our resident study clinician pascalyne nyamai whose contributions were featured at the recently concluded Alzheimer's Association Conference 2024. Pascalyne delivered a compelling presentation on how our team successfully continues to preserve the integrity of blood biomarkers for Alzheimer's Disease (AD) even when collecting samples in rural settings with limited cold chain resources. In her presentation, she emphasized the critical importance of meticulous cold chain maintenance during the transportation of blood samples from rural hospitals to centralized facilities with proper freezers. She also stressed the need for clear guidelines on sample collection, transport, processing, and storage, particularly for research involving hard-to-reach older adults. #ENDALZ #Alzheimersawareness
